Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

TimBuck2 is 'on the money' (forgive MY pun), when he says bookies go for teh green, the newsies go for the ink. They'd rather create controversy, the bookies try to make money from it.

Forgive my sloth, but didn't read the entire thread, been watching the Texas thread.......great first game. NIU has a good running back, and if Lindy's/Athlon/Street&Smith's are anywhere accurate, a few good O-linemen to go into the mix. Tressel is going to have to be cagey, giving our young D some experience, but not giving away the strategy for Texas. Texas' young Q-backs will probably hand off to the great running backs, so NIU will be a good warm-up.

I look for Pitcock and Patterson to play only 2 quarters, then throw in the 2's (I want to see Larimore - man, he just LOOKS like a D-lineman!). Young ends will shift in and out, looking for the most effective (he who gets the most sacks or TFL, starts). Can't see much nickel, but maybe Jammo blitzing.

Offensively, I believe the Bucks grind out two TD's on the first two series, and then hit two big passes. Tress will pull Smith (and Pittman) and work Zwick, and then Scoencroft (sp). Chris Wells plays, and makes 80, Pittman 125. Different combos on the O-line, to see which opens the holes and does the pass protect better.

I take a trip to Tahoe in August, so I'll put up $50 on the over of 47 1/2. I think we score 6 tds, and give up 2. (Hopefully extra points are automatic.....).

Anyone know if it's gonna be on ESPN Gameplan? Don't even tune in to regular TV on Saturdays, get some sick-ass Pac-10 game.

I posted this in the Pre-season All-America thread, but it's worth placing in here, also. Garrett Wolfe is the highest rated running back that tOSU will face this year, according to CFN's preseason rankings.

Uh-huh.

Guess I am not the only one that would take Wolfe over Pittman.
