Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

Umm, you do realize Memphis lost all of their qb's right? And they still went to a bowl game even with defenses keying on DeAngelo. That's pretty fucking impressive! You also realize 30 carries for 200 yards is a 6.7 ypc average, right?

Yeah, and I realize that he put up those numbers against Akron. I could rush for that kind of yardage against Akron. Then again, I think you're the one who was shouting from the soapbox that Oregon deserved to be in a BCS bowl before they showed their true colors in the Holiday Bowl, right?

No, you couldn't, but we get your point.
Garrett Wolfe is a good back. DeAngelo Williams is a good back. LaDanian Tomlinson was an outstanding college back. Barry Sanders wasn't bad. Orenthal the bus drivin' murderer Simpson was good in his day. The list of good, great and phenomenal running backs is pretty long. The list of running backs who could give this NIU team an upset of The Ohio State University with a Jim Tressel defense has 4 names on it.

Antonio Pittman
Chris Wells
Maurice Wells
Erik Haw

The only way NIU is going to win is with a dumptruck load of turnovers. If each of our running backs fumbles the ball every time they touch it, and NIU recovers half of them, they are in business. Of course, at some point Tressel will just let Troy Smith run the ball on all the running plays, and NIU's dreams are down the ass-gripper once again.

Fair enough.

Agreed. :osu:

Yeah, cuz Notre Dame sure did show they belonged. :roll1: Oregon didn't have their starting qb Kellen Clemens. If they did, Oregon beats Oklahoma by 2 touchdowns and scores at least 30. It was clear to anyone watching that game that the only thing Oregon was missing was a consistent passing game. Oregon probably would've been smoked by us also but they definitely were more deserving than Notre Dame.

Why can't you get this through your head? Yeah, Williams played against weak teams but guess what team he was on? Memphis! Antonio Pittman plays against much tougher competition but guess what team he plays on? Ohio St.! DeAngelo was a great runningback who carried his team to a bowl game.

Those are Kellen's stats. He wasn't just some crappy quarterback, that's why it was a big deal when Oregon lost him. He had tons of experience not to mention skill that Oregon needed on offense.

Fine. But it's going to take more than running for 223 yards in a LOSS to Tulsa to convince me that he's any good. We'll see in the NFL.

I fail to realize why capitalized "LOSS." Williams rushed 30 times for 223 yards and a 7.43 avg/rush. Inability of Memphis to win that game has absolutely nothing to do with Williams valiant effort.

If I misinterpreted your post, I apologize ahead of time.

Is this the DeAngelo Williams thread?

No, this is the "good running backs whose gaudy stats make them seem better than they are" thread, which originally was the "Garrett Wolfe is so great Ohio State had better out because of what he did at Michigan" thread.

If Garrett Wolfe runs for 150+ yards and an 8.7 ypc average against our first team defense, I will immediately go take a shit in my front yard, in broad daylight, right after the game and videotape it and post it on YouTube.
