Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

No he wouldn't. He would be your starter, and he will prove it in September.

Seems like we've been through this all before but what the hell?

Garrett Wolfe would never have be able to be the starter at tOSU. He would have had to walk on to get here. The starter? Never! Garrett Wolfe is way too small for a top Big Ten team to burn one of their precious 85 scholarship on. If you are only 5-7 175 lbs, don't hold your breath for a Buckeye offer.

Consider this. Tyrell Sutton, a good running back, an Ohio kid, probably a pretty good student since he was able to get into Northwestern, and winner of Ohio's Mr. Football award for 2004. All this and he didn't get an offer to play for Ohio State. Why do you suppose he didn't? I can only speculate why he didn't. Umm, let's see, is it because he was thought to be too small to carry the ball against the likes of scUM in late November in the biggest rivalry game in sports with the entire nation watching and with the Big Ten title and a possible National Championship on the line? Hey, maybe I'm on to something here.

Now, according to what he's listed at, Garrett Wolfe is a couple inches shorter and is about 15 lbs lighter than Tyrell Sutton. G-force, your perspective is all out of whack! Buckeye fans know football. Please don't insult our intelligence by coming on here making delusional claim after delusional claim about a running back that just isn't big enough to play here.

Garrett Wolfe, more power to him. He's the underdog because he just doesn't have the physical stature that most major college football powers or, for that matter, NFL teams are looking for. He's possibly NIU's best player ever. That's great! He will likely be drafted into the NFL next year if he can stay healthy. First round? Nope. I doubt that any NFL team sees Garrett Wolfe as an every down back for Sunday play. Too much money to invest in a back that small! Second round? Do they draft kick returners that high? Third round? Now we're in the ballpark. Maybe. Second day pick? I can hear it now. Good value on the second day they'll all say.

Please refrain from putting forth any notions of Garrett Wolfe being the best running back on the field this September. I've said before in this thread and I'll say it again. There is not one, I repeat, not one facet or positional matchup in this game where NIU has an advantage. Not one. Not even running back! I wouldn't trade Pittman for Wolfe on any day especially not September 2nd.

Pipe dreams can be fun but there is a real world out there to discover. A loss in the MAC championship game and now you're a bunch of world beaters and Garrett Wolfe is a Heisman contender. Fire up another one dreamer.

Admittedly, I don't know anything about Northern Illinois. Except that I might assume that it's IN Illinois somewhere. But if this running back is as small as people are saying, and if people think that Ohio State's defense will not suffer much from losing three awesome linebackers, I can see him getting knocked out of his shoes a couple of times during the game. Those hits are going to take their toll, and he's going to become hesitant when he has the ball. He'll fumble more than once, and he won't be as effective.

Ohio State is going to fling him around like a rag-doll.

Who said that men don't understand foreplay?

74 days until football season

Then we beat Northern Illinois

Then we shock the world in Austin

Come back home to crush Cincinnati

Then it's time to make some violin strings out of the nittany kittens

We take true revenge on Iowa in their own house
because you know last year wasn't enough

BG...MSU...Indiana...Minnesota...Illinois...Northwestern

Then we beat scUM...badly...JT wins his 5th in 6 years...his 3rd in a row

Then the Ohio State Buckeyes win the National Championship in "our house out west" in Glendale. Raise the Crystal Football!!

Carmen Ohio

Now THAT is foreplay. (and it lasted 4 months)

Ok I get this logic.

He is small so he isn't good and will be easy to stop.

Umm no.

Yeah, cuz Notre Dame sure did show they belonged. :roll1: Oregon didn't have their starting qb Kellen Clemens. If they did, Oregon beats Oklahoma by 2 touchdowns and scores at least 30. It was clear to anyone watching that game that the only thing Oregon was missing was a consistent passing game. Oregon probably would've been smoked by us also but they definitely were more deserving than Notre Dame.

Those are Kellen's stats. He wasn't just some crappy quarterback, that's why it was a big deal when Oregon lost him. He had tons of experience not to mention skill that Oregon needed on offense.

My gosh, will you stop with the Oregon apologist rhetoric already? The fact is that Oregon racked up a decent one loss record during the regular season b/c they played NOBODY. When they finally played a team with some talent, they went out there and lost. Worse yet, the team they lost to wasn't even that good last year, as Oklahoma was a middle of the road team in a Big XII that was pretty weak with the exception of UT. I know, I know, they would've won by at least two TDs and scored at least 30 w/Clemens. :roll1: . Right. Do you have any additional excuses and wild, unsubstantiated claims?

So Texas would've beaten USC without Vince Young? Vanderbilt would've won 5 games without Jay Cutler? The answer is no. Kellen Clemens meant the same to Oregon. Why is that so hard to understand? We played no one?

Oregon SOS: 47th
Notre Dame SOS: 52nd

Notre Dame's schedule was even worse.

It's not very fair to criticize Oregon who lost to a very good defensive team without their 3 year starter at quarterback.

um, not that i agree or disagree with either of you about oregon's ability......but they didn't play anyone. showing a SoS that's 5 off from NA just proves it.

Oregon's schedule was weak, and ND's was even weaker. That was what I was getting at. I don't think it's fair to call a team overrated because they lost when they didn't have their quarterback. I've shown his impressive stats and experience yet that means nothing to buckeyeboy. Would people be calling Texas overrated if they lost 3 games last year if they didn't have Vince Young? No, they would say they were a different team without him. The same should be said for Oregon.

which really doesn't help your point, since the ranking is nearly identical, and I think it's safe to say this board feels ND's schedule was wildly overrated. They had two good opponents, SC (who drilled Oregon with clemens) & OU (where he was hurt). But at the end of the day, this is an OSU board and an NIU thread.
