Obviously, the battle scene was unprecedented. I'll have to watch it another couple of times to really appreciate it, but the thing that surprised me was the tension build-up in the scenes of the night before. I was sitting there watching and I felt tense like I do before a rugby match, a fight, or a trial and they conveyed that without over-playing it. Brilliant. Overall best episode I can remember offhand.
I have a personal theory. Didn't see it online, but it would be quite epic
on the "next time on GoT" Davos rats out melisandre to Jon snow about killing the kid in the fire. What if Jon chops off her head, and in the process forges his valyrian steel sword and becomes azor ahai?
Littlefinger needs to die soon. Looking at you deadly assassin Arya.
However, I imagine she's heading to Kings Landing next to sit around and do nothing until it's conveniently the most dramatic point in the script to make an appearance.
Also, isn't everything that happens in between now and the dragons wrecking the white walkers just pointless filler?
Dorne and the Queen of Thornes and Danerys waste time fighting Cersei and Jaime, while Jon and Sansa waste time dealing with Littlefinger's bullshit while the white walkers stand around and do nothing until it's convenient for the plot.
Then Arya pops in and conveniently solves whatever's going on in the South with a Lannister assassination just in time for Danerys to rush North and save the day with the dragons melting some snow men.
Jon and Danerys get married.
The end.
how the fuck did Varys get from Dorne to the ship standing behind Danerys?
