As others have said, the episode up until the fight was the most boring episode they have had so far, and the only part that had me showing any emotion was Arya laughing when news of her aunt's death reached The Hound's ears. I did like the shock value to the outcome of the Trial by Combat but the fight itself could have been done SOOOOOOO much better. I understand in the books it's a one sided affair until the very end, and they stuck with that in the show but I still think it could have been done better. Wasn't impressed for 59 minutes in what was probably the most hyped scene in the show to date minus the Red Wedding. However, next week should be awesome no doubt. Episode 9's always are and I heard they spent more of the budget on this next episode than all other combined.

102 vs 100,000. Directed by Neil Marshall, who handled the epic S02E09 Blackwater.

I've read all the way up until book five and haven't been dissapointed with the series at all.

There's something to be said for going in blind. I watched the first season blind and I remember how pissed off I was that they killed off Ned Stark. If I had known, I would have been more concerned with how it was portrayed rather than what happened.

With the Battle of Blackwater and The Red Wedding, I watched knowing what would happen and hoping the show would do the events proper service. They did not disappoint.

They did not to the Trial By Combat service last night. I knew the Mountain was going to crush the Red Viper's skull after some hotdogging on the latter's part. I'd have preferred they used the last half hour to build up to the fight and spend a little more time during the fight and some of the aftermath. It was a HUGE event. Relegating it to the final 10 minutes made it seem like a minor thing. They did not give it the attention it deserved at all. Hell, they gave the farce of a trial more attention than the actual trial (combat).

but really, how long can you make a scene of two guys fighting to the death one on one? now if you're arguing for 30 seconds or a minute less of a conversation pertaining to beetle smashing in what was a pretty poor metaphor, for some additional spear twirling and thrusting fine. but really, the adjudication portion of the trial was more important to the plot than the already known outcome of the fight, given the direction the books go in after this portion is concluded.

I wanted some actual build-up to the fight. Some discussion among the prominent people of King's Landing. We never got Tywin or Cersei's reaction to Oberyn Martell volunteering as Tyrion's champion. All we ever got was the stupid beetle story - and I'm not even going to try and rationalize that story as some sort of artistic metaphor that fit the moment. It was stupid.

the beetle story was a metaphor for indiscriminate killing, which fit the moment, regardless of how long and tedious it was. And Oberyn made no bones about his motives in kings landing to both tywin and tyrion in several different scenes throughout this season. it's not like anyone was going to be remotely surprised that oberyn jumped at the chance.

Makes me wonder if they get to pay the actors less if they don't say anything in an episode i.e. Cersei. Probably had to pay Missandei more this episode.

I know, but when there's a big fight, you like some build up.

I could have done without the Missandei/Grey Worm stuff. I like nudity as much as the next guy, but I don't watch this show for it.
