and what the fuck are the undead even doing in the library? Looking for the book "falling for the oldest trick in the book for undead dummies"? There's a massive fucking battle raging and these dozen zombies decide to go hang out in the library and just wander aimlessly while menacingly dragging their hands along the shelves?

my wife pointed out to me that the purpose Dondarian served was saving Arya so she could proceed to do her thing, but it literally could have been anyone else that was there with the Hound and got stabbed and died... he did nothing extraordinary to justify being brought back from the dead seven times... maybe he was extra brave? or extra good at convincing the Hound to go with him?

it was still lame and he could have been used so much better considering his entire purpose was dying in that battle (and again, same with Melisandre)

First time to this thread. Have no clue who will sit on the Iron Throne after the finale, but I voted for Arya because she just went full badass and now will be rooting for her...
It will be interesting to see if the writers take the time to come up with an excuse for why she can’t just go to King’s Landing to murder Cersei and anyone else even remotely supportive of her... or if they just ignore what is by far the most obvious next step.

Good not great... probably due to too much build up... don’t expect much else..haven’t read the books but you can tell when the show went off the rails due to lack of a super detailed book to reference.... personally I blame GRRM for being a lazy bastard and not finishing the books in time or exercising enough control..

CGI costs a lot less if you make everything in a snow storm

Tactics 101:

Don’t charge your cavalry straight into enemy lines, hold them in reserve and charge the flanks when the enemy is engaged (I get that it made for a cool visual)

Trebuchets go behind walls or at the very least behind your front lines so you can fire them more than once

Dig wider trenches

What purpose exactly did Dondarian serve through his death? Especially since they highlighted it in the dialogue. Couldn’t he have at least blown himself up with some lord of light power to block the hallway or something? He deserved a cooler death (I thought he was going to be the one to sacrifice himself to light the trench, or to kill the giant, or to do something...)

The problem with having so many characters in one place is that you lose track of all of them- this could have been alleviated somewhat by having a lot more of them die off throughout the episode, I thought for sure they were going to go harder with that - again, someone bites it to light the trench, someone more important bites it to kill the giant, and so on...

Seriously, why the hell didn’t the red lady at least sacrifice herself in some interesting way... and that last shot, uh, into the sunrise? Can someone pay me to write this shit, seriously

I was genuinely surprised by who took out the Night King, (other than the physics of how she managed to do that) it was a well done surprise

Dead Starks, I was hoping they’d be friendly, like “yeah, we’ve been fighting these fuckers for millennia, we’ve done this before”

Poor Winterfell, I hope the last shot of the show is them undertaking a massive reconstruction project with scaffolding everywhere and whoever’s on the iron throne saying “we’ve got your back whatever the cost”

Fuck the producers for continuing to be lazy assholes with Ghost... it looks like he’s still around based on the “next episode” footage... and it looks like the walls of Winterfell are just fine so maybe my previous concern is moot

Overall, other than the Arya ending, I thought it was pretty “meh”

They had so many opportunities for characters to shine (Dondarian and Red Lady primarily, and they totally wimped our on taking down main characters) but they whiffed completely

Obviously I really enjoyed the episode but pretty much everything you pointed out is something I couldn't help but roll my eyes over while watching the episode. It's clear that Hollywood has a ton of excellent directors, producers, and artistic folk but have a MAJOR lack of quality writers because there are so many writing flaws in some of the most successful TV shows running (GoT / TWD).

the last part is not true. Its that the producers and TV exec keep wanting to milk the cow and start to make changes to the story line to suit the popularity of the show instead of arc’ing towards a natural conclusion... TWD should have evened after 5 or 6 seasons....

I’ve come to the conclusion... 6 seasons (60) episodes for a good well thought out show after about that season.. crap starts to head down hill because its greed at that point.. see The Wire/Breaking Bad...

In GoT though this isn't true because the executive producers are the ones who said years ago they would do no more than 7-8 seasons and even they felt that was too long which is why the last two seasons had to speed things up SIGNIFICANTLY.

this is why i prefer limited series consisting of one complete arc over one season. everything is fully fleshed out and decided before the camera ever starts rolling. visions are complete before execs can meddle. storylines are concise. a lot of fat is usually cut out. see:

1. first season of true detective
2. band of brothers
3. acs: people vs. oj
4. the night of

and when a limited series doesn't appeal to you, it's easy to cut and run without feeling like you've lost much. dexter, on the other hand...

While there were moments, pretty disappointed by that episode overall though. To be real, I couldn't see most of the episode, lots of sounds. But whatever. Hope the rest of the season is good.
