Buckeye Students,
This is an exciting weekend for THE Ohio State University. We open the Big Ten season by hosting a very good Penn State team and WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.
Wear RED, and once the game starts we need you to cheer loudly for your BUCKEYES.
Be loud and proud.
Remember, too, it is important to act with CLASS and DIGNITY at ALL times. Treat our opponent and their fans with RESPECT.
Let's show everyone in college football why we have the "BEST FANS in the LAND."

I got the same letter. We are about to put Penn St. fans to shame. And Columbus may burn to the ground this weekend.

Fortunately, the rain might be able to put the fires out that the morons start.

NOTE: If anyone here is thinking of starting a fire, I want you to know that you're a moron. There's no getting around that. There's no defense. You're a moron. It's that plain and simple. So if you're ok with being a moron and putting other people at risk, go ahead and start a moronic fire of some couch that your roommate regurgitated on.

Not defending them, but I don't think people plan ahead to set shit on fire just like they don't plan ahead to vomit all over themselves, it just kinda happens after you drink enough.

I by no means intend to dis our own fans, but this is a tall order.

I have been to Happy Valley. The area is isolated and the social infrastructure consists almost entirely of the University. A big pre-game atmosphere cannot be diluted as it can be in a large city like Columbus where there are other distractions.

The students line up outside the stadium to be admitted to the student section where the first in get the best seats. They get there early and feed off one another. These seats are along the side of the field, not in the end zones or C-deck.

I was there in 2003 when PSU was 2-6 and riding a four game losing streak. Their season was already over and it was still one of the loudest places I have ever been.

But let's get after it....

I guess some folks aren't reading the whole letter.

I must say, I don't agree with this... your body/mind chooses to vomit because of built-in defense mecahnisms our bodies have to avoid poisioning... taking a lighter/match and setting something ablaze is more than an involuntary response, it is nothing more than stupidty.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have had NO occassion in my life to be so fucking wasted that I've lost all reason or rationality. I won't give you my partying resume, but I assure you it is signifigant. Lighting shit on fire is not an act which one naturally stumbles upon owing to incapacitation. Maybe things have changed, but when I was spending my weekends fucked up - even after football victories - my concentrated effort was in AVOIDING cops, not enducing them. A good way to keep out of jail? Don't set people's shit on fire.

This aint Morgantown. Stop acting like it is.

Gotta agree, lighting something on fire is a deliberate act. I dont care how much you've had to drink, its stupid.

Like Ryn said, I disagree somewhat. There were people on my street buying furniture from Goodwill for the explicit purpose of burning them. "Don't throw out that desk! Save if for after we beat Michigan..."

The guys up the street from us have lit a fire for our wins over Michigan, ND, and Texas. The last one was probably on the news as it got out of control - with the flames reaching just below the telephone wires. Hopefully they'll stop as the last one nearly killed them...idiots.

I'd just like to say that I have never lit anything on fire after a game nor have I been around anything like that. I have, however, run down the street yelling a lot.

I guess you've convinced me that a lot of the fires are planned ahead of time, I always figured they were just spontaneous drunken things.
