Game Thread Game Four: #1 Ohio State 28, #24 Penn State 6 (9/23/06)

The Governers Victory Bell made me think of something...perhaps this could be split into another thread or a new thread alltogether.

I can't think of very many "trophy" matches we have with Big 10 schools. In fact, besides the Illibuck trophy, I can't think of anything. And Illibuck barely counts because 1) No one knows about it 2) It's a wood turtle, and 3) The trophy is passed onto the winner of last years game, making it a pretty worthless "prize."

I think its developing into a nice rivalry. Of course its nothing compared to scUM, but theres 100 times as much history for that game. We've only been playing Penn State every year for 13 years. Give it more time and I think it'll be a great #2 rivalry for us.
I think it has already turned into a nice #2 rivalry. Since PSU entered the conference Ohio State leads the series 8-5. Ohio State has held serve on all its home games while beating PSU twice at their place (1995 and 2003 by a total of 4 points). Overall the series is tied 10-10. OSU should hold serve once again this year to take a slight advantage in the overall series.

Results since PSU entered the Big10:

10/08/2005......@*Penn State (11-1)...L 10-17
10/30/2004....vs.*Penn State (4-7)....W 21-10
11/01/2003......@*Penn State (3-9)....W 21-20
10/26/2002....vs.*Penn State (9-4)....W 13-7
10/27/2001......@*Penn State (5-6)....L 27-29
09/23/2000....vs.*Penn State (5-7)....W 45-6
10/16/1999......@*Penn State (10-3)...L 10-23
10/03/1998....vs.*Penn State (9-3)....W 28-9
10/11/1997......@*Penn State (9-3)....L 27-31
10/05/1996....vs.*Penn State (11-2)...W 38-7
10/07/1995......@*Penn State (9-3)....W 28-25
10/29/1994......@*Penn State (12-0)...L 14-63
10/30/1993....vs.*Penn State (10-2)...W 24-6

Average score: OSU 23, PSU 19
Average score at Ohio State: OSU 28, PSU 7

I believe there are four Ohio boys starting for PSU on Saturday.

Which is less than the five Pennsylvanians on Ohio State's roster (not counting the walk on).

Compare that with the 1996 team which had one player from Pennsylvania (Randy Home). How many native Buckeyes were playing for PSU at that time?

I see 6 on each roster.

Gerald Cadogan and Jed Hill are from Ohio, in addition to Clark, Davis, Price and Donnie Johnson, who were mentioned in the article.

But it is good to get as many players from PA as PSU gets out of Ohio.

"I've never heard anything louder in my life than it was at Penn State," Downing said.

That, by the way, coming from an OSU offensive lineman who has played many games in Ohio Stadium. Are OSU fans capable of measuring up to the Penn State White-out mania?

Downing isn't sure.

"I don't know," said Downing.

"Maybe Saturday we'll find out. I hope they are, because Penn State's fans were capable, so I know Ohio State's fans are. I know how we party around here in Columbus."

From the NOAA website for 43210

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. South wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

That is down from 70% earlier this morning, there might be a chance we will get lucky. It seems relatively sure that we will be recieving some precip tomorrow night though, and there is an %80 chance on Sat night.
