Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

This "shit" offense won an NC three years ago.... :roll1:

The offense didn't win the NC for us, the defense did. Aside from our 34-point outburst against Minnesota in game #10, our 2002 offense scored a grand total of six TDs and 63 points total in regulation from game #9 through the Fiesta Bowl. It's unreal that we still won the NC with our offense scoring under 13 ppg in regulation in those games. The Texas game is another indicator. We get the ball three times in their territory on turnovers and get nine points. The offense needs to improve, plain and simple.

I'm not trying to be negative but.....

Every coach since the 1940s (Paul Brown) has been fired from Ohio State. Will this consistenly shitty offense and subsequent stubborness to do anything about it be JT's ultimate downfall?

No way in hell. Short of an on the field meltdown like what brought Woody down or one of our guys being identified as the second shooter on the grassy knoll Tressle will be here till he wants to retire.

Personally, I think that's a good thing.:osu:

A NC (and plastering scUM) buys one an awful lot of rope...we'd have to have about 8 bad seasons (7-4 or worse) for there to be any consideration whatsoever, and even then, I don't know. He isn't going anywhere.

Couldnt have said it better. And there was another factor in 02, Mo C. If you have an absolute sick running back, we can go into the I and run the ball at anybody, every game. We dont have that right now. I also dont think the O-line is as good.

As Grad and a few others have mentioned. It's the players, the execution, the talent, etc. Not the coaching.

If it's Troy Smith, what is he doing at QB? Is that not a coaches decision? If it's the execution, who's job is it to make the execution better. If it's the talent, who recruits them? You all watch football all day on Saturday like me, I am sure. So tell me, why dont you see the rest of the top 25 look like absolute ass on offense like we do, and have. There is no doubt in my mind where the problem lies. And no, this is certainly not a "Fire Jim Tressel" post. This is a "Get a real OC" post.

Come on know Jax, there are so many factors that go into each game. If you look at our games against SDSU, Miami, and Iowa. If we don't put in backups in the fourth quarter our total d would probably be around first in the nation.

What does our defensive rank have to do with anything? My point was that only Central Michigan University was held to less yardage than OSU was tonight by that great defense of PSU's.

I don't if you missed out on the fact that we were throwing down the field, run alittle trickaration(reverse to Ginn, put Ginn in the backfield), the rain, the 108,000 screamin lunatics, We lost our starting right tackle which caused for a lot of pressure on our qb, and we didnt have our first backup(Rehring), and most of all that helluva a defense that PSU put on the field.

The only thing I missed out on was which one of that laundry list of excuses makes it ok for us to have less than 200 yds of offense

I don't know if it is me, but your true colors always seem to come out after a loss.

Not sure if you mean me personally or people in general but if you mean me then I'd say no shit. I get pissed off and bitch about the offense a lot when it's what causes us to lose a game we could have easily won. Color me crazy but underperformance infuriates me to no end.

Just give PSU credit they played a helluva game and move on. We have a game next week and the sun will rise tomm.

the sun will rise, i never said it wouldn't. You do realize however that it will rise on another wasted season? No National Championship game, no BCS game, no B10 title...just sunny central Florida on new Years Day. Well I already live in fucking Florida so forgive me if I'm not impressed.

Great post. 1) We have a better Clarett coming next year :tongue2: Poor kid, the expectations are gonna be unreal. I think he'll be a stud tho, and have pittman to help share the load.

Under tressel, we have so many precious things:

a) a NC (so many schools that should win one don't)
b) owning our rival
c) controlling the state of Ohio for recruiting
d) a suffocating defense
e) elite special teams

We need an offensive coordinator. There's no doubt about it. We can stick with Smith and win if we get someone to adjust better to what the defense is doing.

I think we CAN (not saying we WILL) beat everyone else on our schedule...that would give us 9-2, 7-1...if Penn State loses a single game, that's a shared Big Ten title, and maybe a BCS game. Unlike scUM, we still have plenty to play for...the MNC is gone, but little else is.

I was pointing out that some of those stats are jacked up b/c of the fact that they had their back ups in, like we did against the teams I mentioned.

Ok since you do not like the reasons I gave you why we had less than 200 yds. tell me what you would to do fix it.

Well I guess it just seems you always like to bash the offensive stats. We are never going to have them so why get so damn worked up about them. There are so many factors that go into the games. Big Ten football is totally different than Pac-10 football.

I have came to realize that we could win a national championship about every year. Some years we think we have the team and others we don't, but we will be in every game we play and have a chance to win giving us a chance to win all or our games. It just sucks this year that we played two very tough teams b4 halfway through the season and came up on the losing end. Shit Happens we can still buckle down try and win out, hope PSU loses share the big ten crown and hope for the best. We will always have our pride and that is what matters. Can't be perfect every year.

Excellent post. I could not have said it better.

So I just got back from the game. I'll tell you the #1 reason we lost that game...the crowd. I knew we were sunk once they got into it and stayed in it. That was the loudest game i've ever been to. Seemed like there were 109,000 students. I've been to Penn State before, and I've never seen it like that. Too much for TS and the Buckeyes to handle...plus NO mistakes by PSU.
