More reasons why I don't understand all the optomism about PSU's chances. Ohio State is 8 - 4 against them since PSU joined the B10, and could well have been 10-2 had things gone the way they should have in 01, or could have in 97 (On my Birthday, dammit all) That is, the only years Ohio State was blown out were 94 and though the score isn't extreme, the 1999 games wasn't as close as the score. Conversely, Ohio State has destroyed PSU no less than 4 times (93, 96, 98, 00).

In the series (Again, only since PSU joined the B10) Ohio State has scored 296 points, for an aveage of 24.67 per. PSU has scored a total of 236 for an avg of 19.67 per. If, however, you toss out the highest and lowest scores obtained in the series Ohio State has scored 241 for an avg of 24.1 per while PSU has only scored 167 for an avg of 16.7.

Getting back to the topic of consistency as brought up in DaddyBigBucks post, you can see it's not just their D that's inconsistent, they've been up and down in this series since it's inception.

Ohio State has dominated this series, and this year should be no different considering the talent levels of each squad. PSU is the most inflated 5 - 0 in the nation, save for TTU and Cal.

Final analysis

This will be a tough test for Ohio State, especially considering the Buckeyes haven't played away from the Horseshoe this season and Penn State has played Ohio State tough recently. The Buckeyes were lucky to get out of Happy Valley with a 21-20 win in 2003. But Ohio State is bigger and more physical than Penn State on both sides of the ball. I'd love to pick Penn State, but the more I think about it the more I think Ohio State is a Big Ten title contender and Penn State is still a year or two away.

Hahaha...they've averaged over 6 losses per season in the past 5 seasons. Notice in the past 3 years, nobody has scored more than 21 points. I look for that to stay the same today...it'll be an old fashion Tresselball blowout. Get control, win the game.

Visited some of the Penn St Boards this morning looking for good stuff to read. By in large the Penn St fan base has to be the least knowledgable about football. There were 70-0 PSU prediction abound.

Is there actually a GOOD PSU board out there?

While I agree that cancelling at the last minute probably wasn't the best move, the distraction would be pretty significant for the players who are hosting the recruits for the weekend. As a coach, you really don't want to do anything to put any of your guys out of thier comfort zone or mess with their own game preperation routines before a huge game.

I'll bet the recruiting coordinator still offered all the guys who were planning on coming tickets to the game and whatnot to see the atmosphere, but I think JoPa was really just looking out for his players. What I'd really be interested in knowing is who all was there on an unofficial and compare that list to the guys who were scheduled to be there on an official.

Also, I totally agree with LJB on the overall significance of these things in the bigger picture of recruiting.

It would have been very possible for them to have talked to less important members of the staff, been shown the academic side of the school, go experience the gameday crew and the game... and then be at the celebration after the game (in a perfect world), and get to know the players on sunday. Somehow OSU and every other big school that hosts recruits get it done.

It may not have been that big of recruiting boost for their players to be there. But you can be sure it's gonna turn some heads in a bad way to cancel visits. What about next year's big game? If I'm an 07 recruit, I'm gonna worry if JoePa will cancel last minute again.

I suppose it's karma that we have to have howard up their to counterbalance herbie. I was surprised to hear Herbie call us the best D, tho I'm starting to think he just repeats whatever is on the teleprompter (he was spouting off how VT had the best D and couldnt' be beat at home). I liked the review this morning, they may be the best D, but they haven't been tested.

Today's difference maker

Who do you think the difference maker will be in today's game? I think Pittman will be offensively and Youbouty on defense. I also think that it is key to score first to take the crowd out of it and begin to take some air out of PSU's confidence. Would be interested in what you guys think

No limb for me on offense. Troy Smith will be the difference maker...one way or another.

On D, I'm looking for Kudla to continue his great play and force Robinson into some poor decisons/gambles that tOSU can capitalize on.
