Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

LJB - I understand your point about the relative value of in season and off-season visits. It makes perfect sense that there is a greater opportunity for contact with the coaching staff. I know you were not defending Penn State's decision in making that argument.

I believe you will agree though that JoePa's late breaking decision to cancel these visits remains ill-considered. Setting aside for the moment the case of Rickerson, he was a hand-holding situation anyway - Penn State was low on his list of favorites, this has already left a bad taste in another recruits mouth. Brandon James was clear in an interview that he was displeased with this dis-invitation. He had Penn State in a small group of 3 colleges in which he had an interest.

So that's one down (Rickerson), one ticked off (James) and how many others looking sideways? Colin McCarthy was one of those intending to officially visit. There is no reported reaction from the McCarthy camp. Perhaps he like the others is being polite, or discreet. Regardless I can well understand a negative reaction to JoePa's late change in the travel plans of these young men, not to mention their parents.
I agree - dumb move on JoPa's part, as no recruit wants to have an official visit canceled for any reason, especially at the last minute. JoPa should have planned his visits better.

Also, not that it would have made any difference but Ausberry was at the Iowa game not the Tehas game.
You are correct ... I was looking at the "big game" aspect (Iowa was also a big game), not necessarily Texas in particular.

FWIW, Steven Wesley visited for Texas (OSU is still in the running, and may lead), as did Kurt Coleman (already an OSU verbal).

For Iowa, Colin McCarthy also visited (OSU in the mix).

Wesley Lyons, Navorro Bowman, and McKenzie Matthews are scheduled to visit for the MSU game on October 15th.

no fair using examples LJB. :tongue2: good post, btw

However, in terms of Ohio prospects, I have been to the shoe for some games and it wasn't nearly loud enough (that happens for lesser games at times). I would think the electricity of a big game like Texas (or USC, Miami in the future) can have a huge impact on interesting a recruit.

Verballing is a bigger commitment, but I think it can help them put/keep OSU in contention. That seems to be the most important step, and the rest is a crapshoot.

The bigger thing is that if king starts at CB he can only play so much WR before becoming worse at both positions.

On a sidenote, check out the exciting life of a PSU fan:

here are two small points that may have huge impacts:

- psu's kicker does not kick touchbacks. we may see ginn and/or holmes have some huge returns or at least give osu some great field position.

- robinson throws the ball low. look for knocked down and tipped passes that may result in an interception or two.

This point will not matter as much as you think, since Ginn and Holmes will only have 1 kick off to return.

It's so sad that this is the biggest game that they've had it what seems like decades. Just because PSUcks can't win games anymore, all of a sudden they win 5 and they think the world revolves around them again. At least it will be fun for the Buckeyes saturday :)

Not trying to pick on you XC, but why would that be sad? I would think that teams using OSU as a measuring stick is the greatest compliment (even if they don't mean it that way) that we can get...it means we're the king of the hill, and everyone measures their success by how they do against us. Pretty good place to be, no?

I didn't mean it like that...i'm trying to bash PSUcks...not analyze things anymore. Enough of that...it's less than 24 hours to kick off...now it's just bashing the shittiest team outside of the state of Michigan. PSUcks is sad...because they are such a huge football school, yet this is their biggest game in many years??? Not because it's OSU, but because they are ranked for the first time in what seems like ages, and the national media isn't saying sucky things about them. That's what's sad. Of course every game Ohio State is in is the other teams "game of the season" But they play us every year...it's sad that this game hasn't meant anything to them in so long. ALSO...it was funny listening to the kids outside of the stadium in tents.

"I've been waiting for this game since the schedule came out last November."

Dumbass...the schedule doesn't come out in November...and even if it did, you always play us...every year, we are in your conference, and I believe this is a game that has to be played every year according to the rules of the Big 10. Just like the scUM game. "Oh gosh, I can't believe Ohio State is on our schedule this year." Maybe they forgot they joined the Big 10...since they really don't fit in...ya know, by being good or anything. 3 wins? 3 fucking wins?!?!? AND THEN ONLY 4? Are you kidding me. Indiana does better. You may be 5-0 this year...but when was the last time Ohio State lost 9 games in a season???? That's right never...they've never even lost 8 in a season. Yet you go and lose 9 in 2003, and then come back with losing 7 in 2004? What an embarrassment you've been for the Big 10. I'm mean that's just pathetic. 16 losses in two season. Ohio State hasn't even come close to ever losing that many games in 2 season. I'm not even sure they've ever lost that many games in THREE straight seasons. The Big 10 doesn't feel sorry for you Penn State...we feel sorry for ourselves...for believing you could even join the Big 10 and hang with us. It's a joke. Pitt would have been more competitive. Enjoy being undefeated...it's only going to last about another 20 hours. At least with the 6-5 record you'll have this year you'll be able to go to the Motor City Bowl and send JoePa out in grand fashion. PENN STATE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
