Game Thread Game Eleven: Ohio state 25, Michigan 21 (final)

The official Big 10 web-site lists 30 different team statistics.

Fuck Michigan.

Of those 30 statistical categories, OSU is ranked higher than scUM in 22 of them.

Fuck Michigan.

In conference-games-only rankings, OSU is higher than scUM in 25 of the 30 listed categories.

Fuck Michigan.

OSU is the highest ranked team in 12 of the 30 categories (10 in conf.-only rankings)

Fuck Michigan.

scUM is the highest ranked in only 2 categories. (Fewest Penalties and Opponents 4th down conversions). In conf.-only rankings they are highest only in Fewest Penalties. Probably because most Big10 officials are weasels, it's just professional courtesy.

Fuck Michigan.

There are several categories where OSU is in 2nd place by an eyelash. (conference-games-only)
  • In Scoring Offense, we are 2nd to PSU by one point. Not one point per game, one lousy steaking point for the whole Big10 season.
  • Fuck Michigan
  • In Kick Off Returns, we are 2nd by 2 lousy yards.
  • Fuck Michigan
  • In Net Punting, we are 2nd by one tenth of a yard per punt.
  • Fuck Michigan
  • In Time of Possession, we are 2nd by one second per game.
Fuck Michigan

Other things to note:
  • In conference-only rankings, we are 7th in pass offense. We are number one in yards per attempt (10.4 yards)
  • Fuck Michigan
  • Our low ranking in 1st downs (9th overall, 8th in conf-only) is only a result of Tressel-Ball shortening the game. We are #2 in 3rd down efficiency.
And finally, let me add parenthetically...

(Fuck Michigan)

Was it just last year that security at the stadium searched scUM's bags and Carr had a fit? I bet they have something interesting planned for our boys. The heat is on Carr. He might be in a "must win" situation.:tongue2:
I want him to stay , just so he can be cheered at the Shoe the way scUM fans cheered Coop!

YES! Downing will PUMP YOU UP FOR THE GAME!

Ah yes, but in all seriousness, I think Heacock must be getting a stiffy thinking about all the blitzing opportunities to get at Henne and the Wolverine offense. For once (probably the first time all year) Hawk and co. are going after a QB that would rather not roll the pocket, or scramble when the line collapses. I would be worried if scUM takes a page out of the MSU playbook and rolls Hart/Grady/Martin around the ends. Some scUM fans are playing the Vince Young angle on Troy Smith, saying the way to beat him is to force him to throw - well, he can throw and he's only getting better. Had we not done what we did to Northwestern I'd be worried about Henne beating our DB's in the air but the way we shut down Basanez and their prolific passing game, I'm confident that the only way Michigan has a chance to get at us is if they can open lanes around the ends of our lines and get Hart in a little open space. This pretty much goes against scUM's entire offensive philosophy...but we busted the spread out on them last year so anything is possible in this game.

EDIT: I am an idiot; Betts, Cupito, and whoever SDSU's QB was were all pocket passers (and so was Young for the entire 3rd quarter of the Texas game it seemed like).

Here is a first look at Police Dog U. The most obvious thing that jumps out -- they lead the Big Ten in virtually all defensive statistics.

Since losing 17-10 to Penn State on Oct. 8, to go 3-2 at the time, Ohio State has won five straight, beating:
-- MSU 35-24
-- Indiana 41-10
-- Minnesota 45-31
-- Illinois 40-2
-- Northwestern 48-7

(note: all stats below are Big Ten games only)

OSU's leading rusher, Antonio Pittman, is averaging slightly over 100 yards per game.

OSU has settled in on a quarterback this season, with Troy Smith averaging approx. 20 passes for 200 yards passing a game on 60% completions, while also being the Buckeyes' 2nd leading rusher, averaging approx. 12 carries for 55 yards per game.

Santonio Holmes is their leading receiver with approx. 4.5 catches per game, with Ted Ginn averaging 3.5.

Ginn is also averaging approx. 30 yards per kickoff return and 12 yards per punt return.

On defense, LB A.J. Hawk is averaging over 10 tackles per game, and Hawk and DE Mike Kudla lead the team in sacks with just under 1 per game.

OSU leads the Big Ten conference in most defensive stats:
-- scoring defense (approx. 15 points per game), total defense (approx. 280 yards per game),
-- pass defense (approx. 200 yards per game),
-- rushing defense (approx. 76 yards per game),
-- sacks (almost 4 per game),
-- opponents' 3rd down conversions (approx. 26%),
OSU also leads the conference in:
-- kickoff returns (Ginn's 30 per)
-- field goals (approx. 84%),
-- time of possession,
-- net punting (approx. 39 yards per punt).

On offense they are in the middle of the road, except passing efficiency where they are either 2nd or 1st. They average approx. a TD per game in the 1st and 4th quarters, and 1.5 per game in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
