G Jamar Butler (Official Thread)

As an older guy in the program it has to be hard to see those 3 guys come in for one year and then leave with a fist full of dollars. It has to put some thoughts in ones head. Hopefully, for our sake (and his) he returns.

I love Butler as a college player but I do not feel his game and skills translate well to the NBA.......I would be shocked if this doesn't turn out to be much to do about nothing......with a good to great senior season he could possibly play himself into a early second round pick in my opinion. If the goal is to get evaluated, then that is a smart decision.

I will disagree on how his skills translate to the NBA...Here is what I posted the other day...

Talked to his high school coach about 3 weeks ago and the NBA scouts love his size in terms of muscle and bulk, and he has the range to be able to knock down the NBA 3...Also Butler has ability in the open court that he will show a little more in the NBA when you won't see the zone presses and if he gets on a team where he could get out in transistion and run...

IMO he is a 2nd round pick next year...

Everything else I agree with tho...I also think that if he is declaring for the draft in anyway it is just to get evaluated and to get an idea of where he would be picked up...

No I don't believe that is the problem...He realized that with those guys here that it helped the program it was a blessing to play with them...Yeah it sucks that they are leaving, but Butler is not going to make a rash decision b/c a couple guys around him make the jump...

Butler NBA rumor false, dad says
Jim Naveau | [email protected] - 04.25.2007
[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]LIMA ? There is ?nothing to? a report that Ohio State?s Jamar Butler might make himself eligible for the NBA draft, his father Melton Butler said on Tuesday.
The Columbus Dispatch quoted an anonymous source in its Tuesday editions as saying Butler, a junior guard from Shawnee High School, was considering joining three teammates who have declared themselves eligible for the draft.
?He?s not doing anything on that. There?s nothing to that,? Melton Butler said.
Last week, 7-foot freshman center Greg Oden announced he would enter the NBA draft and that he will sign with an agent. Point guard Mike Conley Jr., and Daequan Cook, also freshmen, declared themselves eligible for the draft but did not sign with agents. That allows them to change their minds until June 18.
Underclassmen who make themselves eligible for the NBA can participate in a pre-draft evaluation camp from May 29-June 4 in Orlando without losing their college eligibility. Sunday is the deadline to declare for the NBA draft on June 29.

When is the last time the same player was the only starter to return to a team two years in a row?

It hasn't happened at tOSU, going back to 1914. Sorry, but I'm not checking other schools. :tongue2:

Ohio State junior Jamar Butler will not enter the NBA draft, his father said today.

Melton Butler said he spoke with his son yesterday, and Jamar told him that he had decided not to submit his name. The deadline to enter the draft is Sunday.

"He said he had thought about it but he wasn't going to do it," Melton Butler said.
