G Jamar Butler (Official Thread)

i really hope that butler reflects on his lackluster 3-point shooting in the tournament and uses that as fuel to work that much harder in the off-season. disregarding the ccsu game, he was 9-of-31 (29%) from distance during the tournament. i wonder if part of his drop-off was due to conditioning. i don't know. it's just a thought. starting with the second wisky game, jamar was 17-of-54 (31%). before that second wisky game, jamar was 41% from behind the arc.

thanks for all of your hard work this season, jamar. best of luck during the off months. we can't wait to see what you will do during your final season.

edit: i recognize that the beginning of this message comes off a bit too harsh. that was not my intent. i know that jamar is a hard worker and will continue to hone his shot. though i didn't set expectations for him (who am i to set expectations for one of our players?), i did think that butler would be shooting closer to a 45% clip for the season.

With regard to his shooting, it seemed to have fallen off last year as well near the end of the season. I don't know it if he is getting worn down because he does play a lot of minutes over the season. However, he did hit his last 3-point shot of the season last night.:)
the final game but his D seemed missing a bit at times.
I don't think his D lost any of its intensity. I think he is one of our better on ball defenders.

Jamar didn't play nearly as many minutes this year as he did last year, but being worn down could still be part of the problem. You're right about his on the ball defense. His problem, in this tourament, seemed to be staying with the hot shooters, when they didn't have the ball, allowing a lot of threes.

he averaged only 2 minutes fewer per game this year as compared to last year. however, he played 6 more games this year. it would be interesting to see jamar's assist-to-turnover ratio and 3-point percentage charted, which may (or may not) indicate his physical fitness as a reason for decreased accuracy as the season draws to an end.

Let's not put too much of that on Jamar. Some of that had to do with transition defense and guys not getting back. I know last night a couple guys got wide-open threes and they were not Jamar's man but he's big enough to accept his responsibility.

Hmmm, the data for these charts came from a spreadsheet on my computer, so I'm not sure how they'll appear in the downloaded document. Let me know if they don't show up for you.

Cumulative 3 point shooting gradully decreased over the last 15-20 games.
A:TO ratio leveled off just a hair under 2.5 about half way through the season and didn't very to much after that.

It wasn't like I blamed him for every three made. The ones when it was his man, and he didn't stay with them, are the ones I was talking about. I can understand how you might have misunderstood what I was saying. I got a little winded reading my massive run-on sentence that you quoted.

Why are you blaming anyone ? It was a team loss and even that doesn't need to be blamed. They are our team We are disappointed by their losses, we are joyful with their wins. We do not "blame" anyone.
They are OUR team.

I think you're taking the word blame way too literally. Blame may be the wrong word, but blame for an individual shot or lapse of defense is what I'm referring to. Jamar is from my hometown, and I am a huge fan of his. Being critical of an individual facet, one that he has traditionally been strong in, is not blaming him for a loss at all. It was obviously a team loss. Just as the others were team wins. I was referring to the entire tournament, not just one game.
