G D'Angelo Russell (Unanimous 1st Team All-American, All-Star, Los Angeles Lakers)

Anything to be worried about?

Three of the four remaining commitments to the Buckeyes’ 2014 recruiting class returned signed letters of intent to Ohio State today.

As of early this evening, coach Thad Matta still was waiting on a signature from the highest-rated prospect of the four, guard D’Angelo Russell of Louisville, Ky.

Neither Russell nor his coach, Kevin Boyle of Montverde Academy in Florida, responded to text messages today asking for confirmation that Russell had signed.

Russell's Montverde team is supposed to be on CBS Sports Network tonight, but it might be close to midnight before his team starts playing. They were supposed to start at 11, but the other game got started late perhaps due to a hockey game going long. The game that is prior to Montverde's at the same event is not finished yet.

Russell had 28 in a win over Christ the King (NY) last night. His team is in a showdown tonight against White Station (TN) which features Florida signee PG Chris Chiozza and Leron Black who is headed to Illinois. Game is scheduled for 10 PM tonight on CBSSN.

I only watched the first quarter of the game last night, but Russell once again showed off his quick release and good passing skills. He displayed a good balance between pass and shot, he's not a pass-first guard but he is unselfish and makes good passes and sets up his teammates often.

Joining Bates-Diop at Ohio State next year is another five-star prospect in combo guard D'Angelo Russell. Rivals.com rates both players as top 25 prospects, and they are the reason Matta's four-person 2014 recruiting class is ranked No. 8 overall.

Like Bates-Diop, Russell is an elite scorer with a jumper that's prolific enough to assume it would translate well onto this year's roster. Ohio State, instead, has to wait until next season before enjoying their abilities.

"Shooting is a mentality, and I think we've got a couple guys coming in that have that mentality of shooting," Matta said. "D'Angelo and Keita – that's why we recruited them, to make shots."
