Former DC Kerry Coombs (Former Cincy Bearcats Interim Head Coach)

“I’m going to be here the remainder of this season to fight through.” What does this mean?

That he’s probably not going to be here following the remainder of the season, is how I’m reading it.

Just sayin': Coombs was given a 2 year contract when he was hired before the 2020 season. His contract is up after this session. Historically all the assistant football coaches at Ohio State are given 1 year contracts; so all of Day's current assistant coaches' contracts are up after this season. Each assistant coach gets a "performance review" after the season and at Day's discretion is (or is not) then offered another 1 year contract. It might just be that he just considers it presumptuous and/or inappropriate for any coach to speculate about being on the coaching staff next year.

Regardless, I seriously doubt that Day has made any decision yet as to:
1) if he will offer Coombs a contract for 2022
2) If so, what duties it will involve.
3) If so at what salary.
I'm sure he wants to see how this the rest of this season pans out before making it.

A few years ago under FIOA, 11W got copies of the football coaches' performance reviews, if you had never seen the article you might find it interesting:

Salary is moot. He's worth 1.4 million for the guys he brings to this program. Basically a 1st rounder every year he's here which is insane.

Also after having listened to Kerry's presser some. Now I get why he got the game ball and although I feel dumb a lot for things I say this one particularly takes the cake. He deserved that privilege for his ability to go with the change and for doing so while being positive and up beat.

Well done Kerry.

Let’s let the season play out making changes like Day did in mid season took a lot of courage. It could not of been easy on players families coaches or Day. The D is progressing but assuming that they will get to where Day wants is showing a lot of faith.

You mean extend his contact?
Let’s skip a few tedious rounds of needlessly terse questions and say I agree it’s unlikely he’s a coach at Ohio Stste after this season.

But the alternative to him not being here after this season is him being here after this season, which was the answer to your original tedious and needlessly terse question.

Here's a 2:07 version of his presser. If you have not already watched this video (and don't want to watch the 20 minute long video posted earlier), WATCH THIS VIDEO NOW. Best speech I can remember hearing from any Buckeye coach.

I sent this to my friend who is a personal trainer and coaches many youth sports in the area. He absolutely loved it … true picture of leadership, grace and class… We are lucky to have him
