Former DC Kerry Coombs (Former Cincy Bearcats Interim Head Coach)

I dont keep track of who says what.. i was about 10 pages behind and started catching up... but honestly i find myself coming here less lately.. yesterday i read the urban mess.. the last time i was in a game thread was minnie.. i have family members i wont watch a game with for the same reason.. some people just have nothing but anger and vitriol towards people they claim they support.
I mean to my defense the title is literally "do better".

I dont see a huge upcry about wondering why he got the game ball though. I wasn't questioning his level of commitment or expertise. Just thought Barnes would have been given an atta boy if any defensive coach got the game ball.

I understand where you guys are coming from tho.

I know my own limitations so I watch Buckeye games mostly alone, especially the big ones. This place allows my venting so I type to let it out. I used to hold onto that emotion depending on the outcomes but that shit eats you alive eventually. I'm much older now so I get the younger folks losing their cool. Have to learn their limitations. It should be better but it could be worse.

Yeah, by the time the game ends a loss doesn't bother me. The other team was better that day.

Ohio State Buckeyes defensive coordinator remains confident after losing playcalling duties

Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs hasn't lost his confidence or his willingness to work hard for the program despite losing playcalling duties earlier this season.

Head coach Ryan Day assigned defensive playcalling duties to secondary coach Matt Barnes after Ohio State's loss to Oregon on Sept. 11. Coombs, who is in his second season as defensive coordinator, remains involved in the playcalling process, but Barnes now has final say.

"It's my job to walk in the building with a bounce in my step, to high-five and hug every single kid I come across, to prepare the team as best I can, as part of the team of coaches, to help us win on Saturday," Coombs said Tuesday. "That's what my job is, and I look forward to it every morning. I don't get out of bed and go, 'Aw man, I got to work.' I told you guys a million times I get up on the edge of the bed and say, 'Man, it's going be a great day.' Well, it still is. That doesn't change.

"If you let your circumstances change that, then you were kind of fake to begin with."

I'm still so glad he is one of our coaches.

Combs has shown that he is a real "team player" and an asset to the coaching staff.

Chris Olave on Kerry Coombs: “He always has energy. You're going to get the same Coach Coombs every day ... He's impacted a lot of guys on the team not just on the defense, but on the offense too.”

  • "This has been the hardest stretch of my professional career." Coombs says that's a sign that he's had a really good career, though.
  • Coombs said if he had been a miserable human being after the defensive changes, it would have made him a liar to all the players he's coached who he has told to battle and fight through hard times.
  • Coombs says "I'm blessed to work here." Coombs says it's easy to be "a brother" during a 66-17 win, but it's hard to be one during the hard times.
  • "I'm gonna be here for the remainder of this season to fight through" everything with his players.
  • Coombs says he had not been in the press box since his first year at Cincinnati, but says it's been "very valuable" for him in seeing and communicating the game. But Coombs said "I miss hugging people. I've got Kevin Wilson, but I gotta be honest with you, that's not the same."
  • Coombs says he has no lack of confidence in his ability to do the job.
  • On how he felt getting the game ball: "Undeserving would be the first word that comes to my mind ... I was shocked." Coombs says he was embarrassed to receive the game ball.
