Also I realize Kerry is in over his head and probably can't do this job. That said, this makes me sad. He's still an all time favorite and although it's part of the job I just feel bad for him at this point. I mean everyone is basically saying he's done and he's gotten no vote of confidence from Day as well.
I saw that Wilson said the defense was trying to install new things today. Not sure why but it just made me sad for him. Sort of like a last panic effort to get his career in order.
I've been his harshest critic here and again while he more than likely is done here (barring an epic turn around) the dude was always a favorite.

Some random thoughts on the issue: Alabama 2020 coulda/woulda kicked the shit out of anyone in that NC game - loaded from top to bottom and had a pillow fight with #4 before taking on the Bucks. The Bucks? Fields had to have been nicked up following Clemson, the best DB, Ward, was taking one for the team all season long by playing out of position, Togiai couldn't go, lost our running game when Sermon went down in the first qtr.
But this season? Sky-high expectations, thought all the yards Ibriheim got had more to do with his skill than the defense - but that didn't explain the lack of pass rush or the inability to seal the ends. Then comes Oregon and there's still nothing even resembling pressure, much less a sack, and no adjustments to keep the Ducks from going wide whenever they wanted to. Kind of reminds me of the years before and after MoC when Ohio State - Ohio State - couldn't mount anything resembling a running game. There's only one explanation, and I'm not buying that it's lack of talent.

Same, just going to verbally give mine. I am frustrated with the defense and agree Coombs isn't cut out for DC. But he is one of my favorite coaches for all he has done and his energy, so crap like an online petition to "remove him" is just unwarranted and in poor taste.
Amen. Kerry is indeed an all time favorite and I get the criticism, I have been in the same crowd lately because it is clear we need a change at DC. However, I am not going to file a meaningless "petition" online to remove him, he deserves better from our fans after what he has contributed to our team overall. Not too long ago we were cheering for his return, now you have our fans pulling stunts like this?
That said, I am not sure what to do on Day's end. You have very few legitimate options at this point to hire from the outside, and I am not sure we have someone from the inside that would be an improvement. With those things considered, if we are truly searching for a replacement before the end of the year, then it better be a fairly certain improvement over Coombs. Whether that is available is way above my pay grade here at BP, but I just really wish people would think about the fact that this was one loss and while the defense needs to be put in different hands, Coombs bleeds S&G and has done a lot for this program and its players/fans. People need to act accordingly.

Take your petition and shove it up your backside. Few people would argue that we've not seen enough now to know that Kerry Coombs should not be coordinating the defense. He is, however, a difference-maker as a position coach and an exceptional recruiter. He brings motivation and enthusiasm and it is a plus. Right now, responsibilities need to be altered to allow the coaches to coach to their strengths on defense. When the season is over, it will be time to reassess.

Part of Leadership is managing underperformers. Being the HC of OSU outside noise is always present. Currently its very loud to get rid of Combs. Ryan Day didnt do anything to quite the noise in his press conference the other day. Don't be surprised come the Maryland Game, Combs is stripped of all duties and Al Washington is the new play caller the rest of the year. The only concern with that thought is Al is an up an coming coach and equally as inexperienced with play calling. Hopefully the L creates a different mindset for the team and we can start playing like we should based on the talent on the team.

Agree Coombs is not cutting it as DC but I said a long time ago to a friend of mine that I would have loved to have played for a position coach like Kerry Coombs. Would have been awesome.
