"This [academic misconduct] is concerning not because of the negative attention it has brought on Florida State, but because it wasn't a secret," says Johnson, an FSU Rhodes Scholar who is currently in grad school at Oxford University in England. "People knew what was going on. For people in the institution to take the position that they were unaware of the situation is untrue.

"I can't list specific allegations. I can't say who knew what. I'm just saying it was no secret. It's sort of like the Mitchell Report in baseball where the players are the ones being accused of taking steroids when everybody involved in baseball knew it was happening."

Something EVERY recruit needs to read who is considering Florida State. Thank God Tressel has more respect for those that give everything that got to the program.

Antonio Cromartie Unhappy with FSU

Cromartie added, "Personally that's one reason why I don't come back to Florida State. What goes on here, how they treat former players, alumni that's played here. How they treat us, that's one reason. The only reason I'm here (today at Pro Day) is because of my God brother."

The article is about Florida State inviting some kids from USF to come over and participate in pro day but only allowing them to run ONE forty yd dash and nothing else. Cromartie heard about it and apparently just added to the laundry list of things as to why he is nto fond of the personnel there.

Radio analyst (former 'Noles QB) Peter Tom Willis was fired from that job for being critical of their offense. FSU has made it difficult to keep that job.

FSU football analyst fired for criticisms

Peter Tom Willis' intent was to call it like he saw it as the analyst for Florida State football. And when the program slips to consecutive 7-6 seasons, that means saying things people don't want to hear.

Those opinions got Willis fired Thursday after sharing the radio booth with play-by-play announcer Gene Deckerhoff for 10 seasons.

"They felt like I was too critical of the program and the team the last few years," Willis said Friday. "I hate that. That was not my intent. My intent was to call it like I see it for 10 years.

"But if people are upset with me because I was telling the truth, if that's going to upset people, maybe I shouldn't be there."

Willis is a member of the FSU Sports Hall of Fame and a former quarterback who led the Seminoles to a 10-2 record and No. 3 ranking in 1989. He was critical of the offense under former coordinator Jeff Bowden, and said that he probably "stepped over the line" when he said the Seminoles resembled a "high school offense" during the 2005 game at Clemson.

That comment upset coach Bobby Bowden, according to sources.

Cont'd ...

Damn straight. I know when I was in high school, we didn't throw jump balls to the Fagg.

I love Bobby Bowden and I hope that he coaches at FSU for ten more years.

I just can't handle it anymore. PT wasn't over the line in calling FSU's offense "high-school".

Why the FSU coaching staff treated "outside" players like second class citizens during pro-day is beyond me. May seem minor, but it goes to the "class" of the coaching staff in place.

It's just a joke over there right now. It isn't coincidental that PSU and FSU are national jokes right now. If the head guy in charge is a joke, the rest of the program follows I'm afraid.

Jimbo Fisher can't take over soon enough, IMO.

And Bobby's legacy, although far from presetine over here, continues to take a hit amongst his followers. He supported PT Willis' firing because PT was critical of Jeff for several years.

That is it in a nutshell Bill.

Bobby was fine with sub-par seasons just so as long as his son had the job of OC, as he was trying desperately to slide Jeffy into the Heir Apparent role to replace him. It took the unusual step of forcing FSU to pay a huge payoff (to a bad OC, who are usually dumped to the curb) to buy Jeff out, or Bobby was going to make it tough for y'all.

He obviously cared more for his family's needs than for the institution itself, and that is where I lost what respect I had for his so-called legacy.

Jeffy was a pretty good receivers coach, but a clusterf*ck as an OC.

Keep in mind the buyout, was in the last year of his contract. Basically, the Boosters paid Jeff not to take the contract extension FSU was going to be forced to give him.

Seriously, think about that for a second. Jeff got paid $600,000 on top of his contract for the year, for nothing. His contract was up, his offense sucked, he shouldn't have been re-signed, yet FSU gave him an extra $600,000 to make him walk away.

"Just walk away, just walk away. You can do away with all of this, just walk away."

Florida State starting LT Rose ineligible for 2008 campaign

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Daron Rose, who started 11 games at the critical left tackle position last fall for Florida State, is ineligible for the 2008 season, school officials said Wednesday.

The 285-pound offensive lineman from Tampa will attend a junior college in a bid to regain eligibility.

Redshirt freshman Antwane Greenlee from Columbus, Ga., moved into Rose's spot for the beginning of fall practice in August.

Rose's departure is the second this week for the Seminoles, who are coming off successive 7-6 seasons as they prepare for their first season with Bobby Bowden's coaching successor, Jimbo Fisher, now formally in place.

Another projected starter for 2008, sophomore linebacker Marcus Ball, was released from his scholarship Monday.

And star receiver Preston Parker is ineligible until he resolves a felony gun charge in Palm Beach County.

Florida State will also be without another half dozen of its top players for the first three games because of a classroom cheating scandal in a music history class attended by a large number of athletes.

The Seminoles have scheduled Western Carolina and Tennessee-Chattanooga in the first two games in hopes of surviving their personnel shortage.

FSU tackle Rose going to junior college

An already-thinned Florida State offensive line will be without starting tackle
Daron Rose this season.
34343062373332663437386566653530
"He will just have to dig down and get refocused on
the grades," his mother, Ann Miller, told the Tampa Tribune on Monday evening.
"He'll be back at Florida State (the next year)."

It is not clear which junior college Rose, a Tampa Jefferson product, will attend
as he seeks to earn an associate's degree needed to return to FSU. Rose started
11 games last year.

Seminoles coaches were already preparing for the season knowing Rose
would not be available for the first three games. Bowden announced after
spring practice that freshman Antwane Greenlee will enter preseason practice
as the first-team left tackle. FSU's first-team offensive line will include three
sophomores and two freshmen.

Ball then Rose. Bill, what the heck is going on over there?

Here's a prime example of what can happen when you don't take a recruit's character into question. Those who complain about the Zach Boren's, Domicone's, and the Homan's should look at the Tennessee's, FSU's, and Cryami's and see where those great athletes that weren't willing to go to class have gotten them.

The Tallahassee Report

For those interested in what the people in Tallahassee have to say about this:

The local radio guys have their heads so far into the sand they can see China. "Just because he started 11 games last year is no reason to assume that he would have started this year..." is a typical quote from yesterday's offering of sports talk radio here. Quite entertaining in a pathetic, unintentional way.

What's more telling is that the people saying this were the hosts. Not because they sounded like delusional homers; but because these were call-in shows when I arrived 5 years ago and no one calls them anymore. Tallahassee is as much a Gator town as a Seminole town now; and both are luke warm compared to the way it was 5 years ago when it was all-Seminole, all-the-time.
