I would love to see them use this scheme (minus the BCS logo, of course) for one end zone:

and have "BUCKEYES" in red on a grey background for the other...

I disagree. I don't like having a background color.

I think they'll leave it like it is. At least I hope they do. I told the salesman for the sportsfield contractor that does most of my work about the project when I heard about it. He has made inquiries and nothing is happening right now. I'll keep all posted if I hear anything.

I agree. I did one of my cornhole boards in such a scheme....

As you can see, I screwed up on the "O's" They're too egg shaped... the "S's" should be more rounded as well.... (the one in "Buckeys" looks too small in this pic, but the actual board doesn't appear that drastic) But, what the hey....

Nope. To my knowledge, Ohio State has never had "colored" endzones. They did have Scarlet and Grey diamonds in the endzones at one point many years ago, but I don't think there has ever been a solid background color, except for bowl appearances. The Rose Bowl would do a Grey EZ with a red "OHIO" (and not Ohio State????) The Fiesta would do Scarlet with Grey Ohio State (See 1984 Fiesta, and of course, more recent). The EZ's in Bruces days are essentially what OSU had this past year, although it was on carpet... oh... and the sideline yard markers were OUTSIDE the OB lines...

I can't remember the year now, but I know that at the buckeye hall of fame they have a picture in the lobby of one of those years....think it was early 70's. The picture is just funny, because nothing in on lane avenue yet, and the old big bear it there.

Definitely no color background in the EZ's in my lifetime, except for bowls, as you point out.

But, during the Bruce era it was the same design, but the Block O at the 50 was in scarlet, rather than gray. And, the lettering in the EZ's was in scarlet rather than gray.

When grass was brought back to Ohio Stadium in the late 80s the first year (or couple of years) they continued the scarlet lettering in the EZs and Block O, then switched to the gray Block O and gray lettering in EZs, as the scarlet paint was killing the grass, IIRC.

I thought I heard on the radio back a couple months ago that they would "patch" the existing grass field for the Spring Game, then make the change after that. fwiw
