Field conditions at Ohio Stadium

All my friends out here in Illinois want to know why we are going easy on scum by putting the most explosive team in college football on a cow pasture. Serously, I hope on 11/19 this thread is dead and buried not the talk of THE GAME.

Maybe they just want to give the poor bastards a fighting chance.

If the OSU braintrust allows a game of this magnitude to be played on what is left of what we saw Saturday I'll be shocked and very dissapointed.

Clear weather and a fast track give us a HUGE advantage.

Couple of questions:
What do you think could be done with the new turf between now and then (getting colder up here, so matters may not improve dramatically)?
Doesn't the poor condition also take away from TSUN's speed at WR, and traction needed by their RBs?
I would prefer, like you, to see perfect playing conditions, underfoot and in the air. But, I just don't think that much can be done in this 3-week period, going into the colder weather, to improve matters.

No idea on what can be done. Will another turf replacement hold? Can something be done to dramatically improve the one we have? Can field turf be laid in 3 weeks? The weather probably keeps us from having it fixed I guess but its still a damn shame.

As far as the conditions taking away scUM's speed, yes it does but thats not nearly as important to them as it is to us imo.

From what I read Field Turf installation typically takes 6-8 weeks. If that is true, then it is not an option for The Game, strictly an out-of-season project.
Our only hope for improved field conditions is that lack of wear and tear, coupled to whatever help the ground crew can muster, yields firmer footing for 11/18.

People really need to stop complaining about........really. I mean, theres nothing that can be done.

Football is a game of adjustments. As a team you have to be prepared for the field. No matter what condition it is in. Wet, muddy, icy, snowy........anything.

Well lets stop talking about football in general then....really. I mean, there's nothing that can be done. The outcome has nothing to do with what we say does it?

Any topic is open to discussion last time I checked and the field conditions are a big deal. Also I don't see a whine-fest here, I see discussion. If you don't want to read about it don't open the fucking thread.

Nope. Another turf replacement isn't in the books.

The real reason this one didn't take was because right after they replaced the turf the last time, it got colder really quickly, and the grass went dormant.

Do you know why FieldTurf takes that long to install?

To the simple mind (...me) it seems like it's just lay it down and play. I can see it taking a couple weeks, but what's involved that makes it take that long to get ready?

scUM fans will be the whiners

Here's the deal - Mike Hart has a bad back. 3 or 4 runs on this turf and he will lose his footing and wrench his back (haven't you ever done that on ice?). He will be aching the entire game Nov. 18th (although he is certainly not a whiner) and then it will be the scUM fans complaining about the turf, even claiming that OSU did it on purpose to slow down Mike Hart.

Because I'll tell you, without Hart, Michigan is Northwestern. Grady is a fumble machine. Henne is scared. Carr is going to choke just walking out on that field.

Still, with scUM's D, it will be a tough game. Probably 38-10 tOSU.

Go Bucks

I assume prep of the field is the hardest part. I don't know what they lay under FieldTurf. Or do to the ground before they put the turf down.

When you have the team speed we have, its a very big deal.. and the number 2 team is coming to town, not to mention who that number two team is, this game will be The Game to end all games and our hundred thousand dollar field can't be cut/run on.

Guys.......your acting like a bad field gives Michigan an advantage. It's not like suddenly our team will be running in sand, and the Wolverines will somehow have some sort of super cleat on that will help them run as if they were on astroturf. The best team will win that day because of execution.......not field conditions. If anyone has an advantage it would be OSU, because they've played several games on it and know what to expect. I'm sure that this issue is being addressed heavily by the OSU field crew, Gene Smith, and all the way down the Tressel. I'm sure between now and mid November they will remedy the problem with the best possible solution. What solution would that be? I'm not sure, and quite frankly I wouldn't want to have to be one of the guys who had to fix that mess.
