Field conditions at Ohio Stadium

Assuming they still have this down next May. If they are going to go to field turf it would be smart to get it down as soon as they can so that it can settle a little. If they redo what they had before it was replaced they would have to wait until after the spring game and probably graduation.

True.

I hope they don't do the fieldturf thing myself. There's just something about a nice even plot of green grass to play on....

Let scUM have their fieldturf. We will contribute oxygen to the world with our natural grass surface

Turf issues
Just two games remain at Ohio Stadium this season, but the replaced turf apparently is already starting to crumble.
"It wasn't as good as we'd like it, but don't get me in trouble," Tressel said. "I've got grounds keepers that work their rear ends off doing their best, but it wasn't as good as we'd like it."

OHIO STATE INSIDER
Stadium's new turf already a flop

Columbus- There are only two games remaining at Ohio Stadium, Saturday's homecoming game against Minnesota and then the Buckeyes' game of the year against Michigan on Nov. 18.
That should match the No. 1 vs. No. 2 teams in the country, but it looks like the field at the Horseshoe may not be up to the challenge.
The Buckeyes have played two home games since the stadium grass was ripped up and replaced at a cost of $100,000, but Wednesday, receiver Ted Ginn Jr. said that the turf now is worse than it was before.
"It was slippery, wet, soft," Ginn said. "I didn't really like it. It doesn't look like real grass. But what is my opinion?"
As the fastest Buckeye, his opinion on the footing matters a lot. And coach Jim Tressel isn't thrilled, either.
"It wasn't as good as we'd like it," Tressel said. "But don't get me in trouble. I've got groundskeepers that work their rear ends off doing their best, but it wasn't as good as we'd like it."
Players said there's sand on the field in an effort to smooth it out. After Saturday, OSU officials will have three weeks to get everything as ready as they can for the Wolverines, but you have to assume that field conditions will be a factor in that game.
"As you move on it, people will realize that they've got to take their time and do things slowly in certain situations," Ginn said. "You always want to play on a surface where you can go all out, but whatever we play on we have to be prepared."

Here is the forecast over the next couple of days.......

Friday: Occasional rain, mainly after 11am. High near 47. East wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Occasional showers, mainly before 1am. Low around 42. North wind between 7 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly between 11am and 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Northwest wind between 14 and 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

That doesn't bode well for an already cruddy field.

Patko picked out a 70,000-square-foot patch of bluegrass at the Cygnet Turf farm near Bowling Green, Ohio. The Motz Group turf-installation company of Cincinnati was hired to remove the old field, which was taken to a disposal site, and install the new. The process will cost between $75,000 and $100,000.

You could replace it 3 times for 300.000! Probably 7 times for what fieldturf would cost.
