Stadium's new turf already a flop

Columbus- There are only two games remaining at Ohio Stadium, Saturday's homecoming game against Minnesota and then the Buckeyes' game of the year against Michigan on Nov. 18.
That should match the No. 1 vs. No. 2 teams in the country, but it looks like the field at the Horseshoe may not be up to the challenge.
The Buckeyes have played two home games since the stadium grass was ripped up and replaced at a cost of $100,000, but Wednesday, receiver Ted Ginn Jr. said that the turf now is worse than it was before.
"It was slippery, wet, soft," Ginn said. "I didn't really like it. It doesn't look like real grass. But what is my opinion?"
As the fastest Buckeye, his opinion on the footing matters a lot. And coach Jim Tressel isn't thrilled, either.
"It wasn't as good as we'd like it," Tressel said. "But don't get me in trouble. I've got groundskeepers that work their rear ends off doing their best, but it wasn't as good as we'd like it."
Players said there's sand on the field in an effort to smooth it out. After Saturday, OSU officials will have three weeks to get everything as ready as they can for the Wolverines, but you have to assume that field conditions will be a factor in that game.
"As you move on it, people will realize that they've got to take their time and do things slowly in certain situations," Ginn said. "You always want to play on a surface where you can go all out, but whatever we play on we have to be prepared."
