After reading all of the teeth-gnashing about bandwagon this and sore vagina that after the Super Bowl, I thought that having a thread for members to list why they like certain teams would generate some discussion....just for fun....
For instance:
Baseball: Baltimore Orioles. When I was a little kid my uncles and cousins in Detroit really tried to put the Tigers on me, but once we moved to Pennsylvania, it was all Orioles all the time. All of our TV stations were Hagerstown, MD channels and they didn't have an NFL franchise either.
NFL: Cleveland Browns: Really I only liked the Browns when they came back. Before that I wasn't really interested in the NFL. Makes you wonder what I was thinking, but what the hell....
NHL: Detroit Red Wings: This is the one and only Detroit team that stuck, but what really caused it was when I was 3 years old, Detroit drafted Yzerman. I couldn't pronounce his name and it stuck with me. Add to that all we got to see of hockey (seemingly) was Mario and the Penguins and I didn't like them even then. Detroit just stuck. Life has been really easy in that regard since about 1993 or so
NBA: I watched just about all Chicago Bulls games from 1988 to 1998, but I can't say they were really my favorite. I just liked watching Jordan play.
College football: Ohio State. In Pennsylvania I was stuck between Ntre Ame, Penn State and scUM fans with a few FSU fans thrown in for good measure. I didn't like any of them and since one of my friends was a big OSU fan and even though we couldn't see any of their games (this was around 1990), I became an Ohio State fan.
Other than OSU, I have always kind of liked Oklahoma and Texas. I think their rivalry is fun to watch and read about.
Anyone else?
