What happened to my ¤cash?
"oh shit!"
"what?"
"rollers"
Funny thing that… When I moved back to Chicagoland after a couple years in the Cincy area, I moved to Park Ridge because my office was right at Cumberland and the Kennedy. Chicago people will know what I’m talking about without the extra commentary, but it was right across the street from the OJ hotel — the place that he stayed after (allegedly) killing a couple of people. It’s just east of ORD (airport, not person) a couple of miles.
Anyhow, the Blues Brothers has pretty much been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. Favorite move ever. First day that I was driving home from work I’m driving north on Cumberland and I see this sign for the Nelson funeral home… and it’s RIGHT across the street from the Shell gas station. I had a feeling that something was just tooooo familiar with what I was seeing. I was new to the area but it was almost deja vu like. It was killing me that it seemed that familiar.
Then it hit me. I knew exactly where it was from. “Rollers…” I popped the movie in and right away it was confirmed.
I also, now, live in the town where the Belushi brothers grew up… strangely, it’s just a couple miles down the road from where the Twiggy gas station “You want that I wipe the bugs off your windshield?” scene was filmed. That gas station is long gone now… but the Nelson funeral home is still there in Park Ridge.
For interested parties who are fans of the movie, there’s web sites that have the Lon / Lat for a lot of the major landmarks from the movie. I’ve seen most of them that I care to see, certainly all the good ones… Including the Pilgrim Baptist Church (James Brown, “Have you seen the light” scene) from the inside… on a Sunday… that’s a story in and of itself. But if you’re ever in Chicago and want to see the Illinois Nazi bridge, it’s on the campus of the Museum of Science and Industry… that’s an easy one to get to.
