Favorite Horror Movies

Anyone who wants to be scared/horrified/disgusted/repulsed and genuinely comtemplate a director's sanity at the same time should see Audition. The last 15 minutes of that movie are extremely mind-fucking...

The Exorcist is still the scariest ever - don't know how many incredibly bad dreams I've had over that one. Agree that Exorcist III is underrated - that movie originally was not supposed to have an exorcism at the end, I wish they would have kept with their original idea.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is probably second for me - very intense!
The silent version of Nosferatu is the scariest vampire movie I've ever seen.
Audition was great - don't know if I'd call it a horror movie, though.
Alien
Jaws was great when it first came out, too.
Watchers is an overlooked classic - GREAT book, BTW.
As a kid growing up we would watch either The Cool Ghoul or Shock Theatre - anyone remember those? Anyway, one of my favorites from those old "B" movies was The Invasion of the Saucer Men.
The Shining may very well be S King's scariest and best book, but it wasn't done justice by either movie version, IMHO. Kubrick rules, though!
Rosemary's Baby is another one. In the original release version did they show the baby at the end? I have never seen a version which did, but I knew someone who said when they saw it, it did and it really creeped them out.
The original Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein
The Howling
The part in Altered States where the little "missing link guy" is running around always scared the hell out of me.
The original The Haunting is great.
And finally, the movie that has caused me the most sleepless night and the most nightmares is one I haven't even seen. When I was about 10 there were these commercials for this movie which would come on late at night - and just the previews would scare the crap out of me. The movie was called Beast of the Yellow Moon or something like that. A "B" movie that I'm sure wasn't even any good, but something about it connected with me. Anybody seen it?

I finally got around to watching Audition. Definitely a freaky movie, but I didn't like the David Lynch feel at the end, where you aren't really sure what's happening. The girl and her needles freaked me out. I would have been okay if she hadn't gone for the eyes.

The best I've seen in quite awhile, but I still didn't have nightmares, so I'm a little let down.

A recent one that freaks me out daily is Signs. M Night Shyamalan's use of suspense is what freaks me out the most. Not a whole lot of aliens on there, but when you see them, they leave a lasting impression unfortunately. I always think I am going to catch a glimpse of an alien walking into corn, or walking across my deck...enough I am freaking myself out again!

*Some Spoilers*

I hated that movie. My dad and I were so pumped to see it but it just sucked. I'm a huge pussy when it comes to scary movies but I only jumped once and that was when the alien walked by that birthday party. M. Night Shyamalan gets so much hype for movies that end up sucking. The logic was so stupid also. These aliens are supposed to be so intelligent yet they can't break into a whimpy old house and can get killed with a baseball bat? Gay, gay, gay.

I saw that and it caught me off guard. Definitely creepy.

The Thing (Carpenter's remake)
Alien

Nothing comes close to those two for me.

I still enjoy Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's a great book and fits in very well with the Needful Things, Willie Wonka (yes Willie Wonka is evil) genre for me. Hard to believe it's a disney film (so was Watcher In The Woods BTW which scared the bejeebers out of me as a kid).

Psst...the movie isn't really about an alien invasion. :)

I am convinced that we cannot do horrors in this country anymore. The asian writers have it down to a science. Top 5: (check em out if you get a chance, and can stand subtitles)

A tale of 2 sisters
Ju-on: The Curse 1 and 2
Pulse
Ju-on: The Grudge 2
Audition

Just noticed this post. Agree totally. The last 15 minutes of that made me turn my head, and that is rare.
