Reykjavik, Iceland
scooter. did you see that piece about the autistic man (a memory savant) who learned the language of Iceland in roughly a week?

They say the local lingo is the most difficult language to learn and understand, anywhere.

My favorite English city is a small one, Winchester - beautiful cathedral, the legend of King Arthur and a great market on market days.

My favorite American city would have to be Chicago.

My favorite European city is Bruges - or perhaps Prague. (If it was good enough for Mozart, and they have more breweries than any other city other than old and legendary Milwaukee).

Segovia, Spain.

In the US...very hard to say. San Antonio coulda been except for what they did to the River Walk. Bastages!

Tell ya what...jack Chicago up on all four wheels, tow it South a few hundred miles, and I'm all about the Windy City. Absent that, any city on the island of Maui will do just fine.

I loved the people there. While the language is very difficult to pick up, the English from the average 10 year old is better than the average 10 year old here. They have a literacy rate of nearly 100% and all children are required to start English classes at a very young age.

St. Andrews, Scotland

Seriously, if money/career/family were not issues, I would move to St. Andrews and never work another day in my life. And no, I don't play golf. I love the university, location, and culture.

If 50,000 is too small to be considered a city, then I would have to go with Edinburgh.

Parts of Doha, Qatar are very nice. Once they get all of the buildings downtown built, that will be a very nice city as well.

Cities to avoid:

Baltimore (minus the Inner Harbor/Camden Yards areas)
Detroit
Waynesboro, PA/Hagerstown, MD
Columbus, Georgia

Yep. I've heard bad things about Macon also.
