Cape Town is by far the best city I have lived in. The mountain, the oceans, the ti...oh never mind. Others...

Columbus - I know its my birthplace but I just love the place and the people. The Ohio State University, still the best place I ever taught even though my present business school is much higher ranked. Nothing in this world beats Football Saturday. Nothing. In my mind, there is something holy about Columbus. In South Africa, they always say to me, "eie mense", which means "own people". Ja, vir my, daardie mense is die beste ter wereld!

Boston - Harvard Business School to Copley Place, along the Charles River, across to MIT, and back to HBS. One of this world's great flat track 10kms and my favorite run in the world. I love the gentrified parts of town and the intellectual capital. Shame about the bloody baseball team, Sushi!

Atlanta - RugbyBuck, lots of hills to run, and great business schools. The city has a lot of history and cultural diversity. The people have an old world charm that is hard to beat.

Nottingham - A small UK city with its own old world charm. Like to stay in the small bed and breakfast places. London is great for a big city, Nottingham is great for seeing the average Brit, and they are nice people. Lots of neat pubs just out of town in the countryside. Midnight sun (almost) in June.

North LA - The dirty, smoggy California we all love. The business school at UCLA. The beaches, the smog, running on the canyon roads.

Chapel Hill - A small city. Nice people. Mountains and sea just an hour away. Per capita, the intellectual capital of America.

Frankfort - The Germans being Germans but with a cosmopolitan touch as well. Old Europe and New Europe together. Not the hype of Berlin.

Haifa - The place where Israelis and Arabs get along. Scuba diving at Ceasaria. The Bahai gardens. Old world Acca. Swimming in the Med. Good runs with lots of hills and long beach pulls.

Amsterdam - I love the Dutch and my best friend is a Dutchman. The people are great, everyone seems to love the brewskies, and the romantic in me loves the canals and museums. All the runs are flat and seem downhill. People very nice.

Orlando - The tourist traps for the kids. Lots of good flat runs. Warm in the winter (but unbearable in summer). Universal City Studios.

Albuquerque - 4th of July. Up in the mountains. Watching multiple fireworks in the desert air. Beautiful. Mexican food in the old quarter.

Tokyo is the bomb.
Paris would be a good choice if their residents weren't so fucking arrogant.
NYC was great for the week I was there, but not sure I'd want to live there.
Honolulu is pretty decent for its size.

I thought Paris was a shit hole. Don't get me wrong, the archtecture/art is second to none, but the subway, sidewalks, etc. were so full of trash and dog shit, I was pretty disgusted.

Quite the contrast to squeaky clean Germany.

You could call 'em trash and dog shit last year, but we're trying to call them the Frenchmen again, FCB. I know its just bein' PC, and all, but Bob Ney in prison, the Dixie Chicks in Grammy's, and the steam gone out of the Freedom Fries campaign, we're trying to make nice.

What's your favorite city in the world? Frequent travelers, please chime in!

In no particular order here are a dozen fantastic places to visit. I had a great time at all of them; but needless to say I probably wouldn't want to live at any of them (except maybe Maui):

St. Petersburg, Russia
Istanbul, Turkey
Beijing, China
Maui, Hawaii
St. John, USVI
Lhasa, Tibet
Galapagos Islands
Copenhagen, Denmark
Bora Bora, Tahiti
Cusco, Peru (jump off point to Machu Picchu)
St Vincent and the Grenadines (locations like Mayreau, Palm Island, Carriacou, Canouan, and Tobago Cay, etc.)
Danali National Park & Preserve, Alaska

Pittsburgh
San Francisco
Palm Springs metro
Austin

Florence
Lucerne
Vienna
(not much international travel to date, sadly!)

Bottom feeders include:

Chicago (I hate the place)
Miami
New Orleans
Las Vegas

I love living in greater Columbus, but no way is it one of my "favorite cities."
