Fantasy Football Advice

So Romo would be a 5th rounder, not a 3rd as I thought.

On another board I was advised to take Gore & Williams, since I can find a good alternative at QB to Romo but have a very poor shot at replacing Gore (with the keeper values of the sleeper turned star RBs in the league right now).

Any other thoughts on this?

What pick do you have in the 1st round? If it's late (10, 11, 12), and the usual suspects (AP, MJD) will be gone, Gore might be a good one to hang onto. But as Piney pointed out earlier in the thread, you can get solid RBs later and go after top-tier WRs. Plus, you already have a solid RB in Williams, so you don't have to keep Gore if you think there will be a bigtime WR out there worth taking late in the 1st. I guess a lot of it depends on your draft position.

Romo for a 3rd still seems like a pretty safe play, because he's gone by the 2nd in most drafts that I've seen. A lot of people are expecting really good things from Meachem this year. I wouldn't necessarily keep him, considering your other options, but if he's still there towards the later rounds, I'd take a look at snagging him again. The 13th seems like a really good value for him. He went in the 5th round in my draft on Friday.

Is there a maximum number of years you can keep each player? If so, how many years left do you have with each?

Gotta think Romo with a 5th is a good option. The wildcard for me is Meacham with a 13th...a lot of folks are talking breakout year for him, and you know they throw the ball around a ton. You basically get him for nothing.

Note: Romo is actually a 5th, which is a pretty good value.

I'm awaiting word on the draft order. I think it was random last year.

3. I kept DeAngelo & Roddy last year, so I have 2010 & 2011 remaining for DW and 3 for the rest.

If I didn't have two studs in Romo & Gore, I'd consider it. But I usually gobble up a few quality #2 WRs on the WW each year, whereas I can spend all year trying to get a top QB.

Sorry about that--I was typing my response as you updated the round (all of this while pretending to be busy at work). A 5th for Romo is tough to beat, value-wise.

Here is what I'm working against, I think the top tier backs are going to be toast.I think Rodgers & Schaub will be kept as well.
Declared Keepers by others said:
QB Rivers 5
QB Ryan 10
RB Forte 6
RB Turner 3
WR A Johnson 2
WR C Johnson 4
WR Fitzgerald 2
Then the other teams and their best keeper options
S Jackson 1, Brees 1, Beanie 5, Driver 8, Flacco 10

Jacobs 3, Colston 3, Marshall 3, Rodgers 5, Johnson 5

Rice 3, Chad J 5, T Jones 6, Clark 6, P Thomas 7, Austin 10

Barber 4, Brady 2, Grant 2, Berrian 9, Gates 5, Ward 7, F Jones 7, Mendenhall 6, Bradshaw 11, Eli 12

Pick 1 (Fitz from here): Peyton 2, Addai 4, Lynch 9, Brown 9, Charles 9, Vernon Davis 11, Garcon 12, Peterson 1

MJD 1, Portis 5, Witten 5, Benson 4, Palmer 8, Schaub 6, V Jackson 8

I'd keep Gore, even giving up a 1st rounder.

There will be options at QB, and after the top 5 RB there is a huge dropoff in terms of a sure thing. You know what your getting with Gore, a top 5-10 RB. With Deangelo and Gore you're looking at a top-notch RB stable, then all you do is go after WR and pick up Flacco or something in the late rounds.

All that is to say, Romo is replaceable, whereas I don't see Gore as being replaceable.

What say you, caller?

Pick 2 (this years pick in parentheses)

Adrian Peterson - RB* (1)
Marion Barber - RB (2)

Terrell Owens - WR (3)
Wes Welker - WR (4)
Donovan McNabb - QB* (6)
Kevin Boss - TE (7)
Reggie Bush - RB (7)
Brett Favre - QB (7)
Sidney Rice - WR (7)
Garrett Hartley - K (7)
Carolina - DEF (7)
New England - DEF (7)
Tennessee - DEF (9)
Derrick Mason - WR (11)
Fred Jackson - RB (13)

Obviously keeping AP. Welker, McNabb, Favre are all a little risky. Barber doesn't seem worth a number 2 this year and Sidney Rice has an injured hip. Fred Jackson at 13 looks attractive but they still have Lynch and now Spiller. Thoughts?

If you are going for long term value, I obviously wouldn't keep Favre. McNabb isn't worth a 6th IMO and you should be able to get him later than that.

If it were my decision, it would be between Welker and Mason. I'd be worried about Mason's role with Boldin now in the fold, but he's still a good value in the 11th, and seems to have developed good chemistry with Flacco. I'm hoping for big things from Welker this year, personally, and I don't think the 4th round for him is a reach. I'd go with him and hope he stays healthy.

What's with all the 7th round picks, by the way?

Honestly, I'd consider keeping AP and leaving one on the table. Simply because I don't think Welker is anywhere close to a 4th rounder this season, with Eddelman producing the exact same numbers in Welkers absence I'd look for Wes to have a reduced role. And its always dangerous taking someone the first season after such a bad injury.

Barber, hell no. He won't get enough carries, plus in all my mocks he has gone 5, 6 or 7 round.

Favre and McNabb will be available in both those positions. Sidney Rice should have a good year but he is a risk. And Favre spread it around so much last year with Shiancoe/Harvin that I'd shy away from keeping him. Fred Jackson appears to be your best value, but I believe he is injured, and like you said, splitting the carries 3 ways.

Mason seems like a good value at 11, even with the addition of Boldin he should perform well. Flacco is estimated to throw for 3500-4000 yards and 25-30 TDs, so you'd have to assume Mason would have decent stats.

Which 3 to start in my CFB league?

Trent Richardson vs SJSU (Ingram sitting out)
Jordan Todman vs UM

Todman & Richardson seem like no brainers, not sure who should be the last.

Allen Bradford vs Hawaii (Kiffin gave Hardesty plenty of carries against bad teams)
Evan Royster vs YSU (he puts up decent but not great #s vs bad teams)
Shane Vereen vs Cal-Davis (gimpy)

Royster won't play more than a half because they will rest him for 'bama. I imagine USC will be out to put the most points up, since they are only eligible in one poll and Kiffin has to do something to keep the team interested, so I would go with Bradford probably.

Apparently Marc Tyler took over the starting role in LA but Athlon didn't feel like mentioning that , so he's now eobuck's. I guess I'll go with Vereen.

I thought Richardson might increase the time off for any Ingram dings and bruises, but I never dreamed he'd be out for awhile with a knee scope.
