Fantasy Football Advice

Well it looks like there are at least 3 people looking for another BP fantasy football league to join. All we need is 5,7, or 9 more guys to get together to get one going. I am a commish of another yahoo league and have been playing fantasy football for 6 years so I went ahead and created another league if guys are interested. The settings and draft time can be tweaked if necessary, I just like these settings because you score a few more points when you start 2 qb's and use 25, 10, and 10 yards per point for qb, wr, and rb. The league id, league name, and password is included in the settings below, so just sign up if you want to get in. But please respond to this thread if you join or pm me so we can keep a running list going of who is in the league. Thanks!

Im in. What do you guys think about fractional points. That way your player gets the exact total for his yards? I always liked this better. More importantly though hopefully we can fill this league up.

That means there are still 8 spots left in the BP fantasy football league III.

I wish I could jump in your League, but that whole week is a bad one for me. I definitely couldn't make the draft and hate auto-draft, it always screws you...

Anyway, I've played FF for 4 years now and am in a couple of leagues again this year. I don't think I've ever felt more unprepared for a draft than I do this season. I've tried to keep up with player movements (Edge, Culpepper, Brees, etc.) and injuries (Palmer, Culpepper, McAllister...) but after Larry Johnson, LTII, and Shawn Alexander, I don't have the slightest clue who I should be targeting. I draft 8th in one particular league (5th in the 2nd round of a snake draft...and so on) and I guess I have about 5 or so guys that I'm looking at, but none of them jump out at me and mke me feel comfortable with them as my #1 pick (I'm actually thrilled I don't pick 4th or 5th this year as I feel the 8th pick has just as much chance to grab about the same value in the 1st and I'll pick that many slots sooner in the second).

Also, based on where I'm drafting in these 12 team leagues I figure I absolutely have to go RB with my #1 (though I'm still not sure who), but then I'm really not sure if my #5 slot in the second round will have any RBs "worth" taking in that slot available. So I'm considering taking my first WR in the spot, which doesn't bug me, but what does is then what will be left fo me as my #2 starter at RB if I wait until the 3rd or 4th rounds with so many ?? at RB this year (RBBC, injuries, rookies, etc.).

So, I've been reading as much as I can lately, but there are so many differing opinions I still feel unprepared. Anyone care to "add to my confusion" :wink2: by throwing in your 2 cents?

To start you off...12 team league; standard starters (1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, K, & Team D); scoring is fairly standard as well (20 yards = 1 point rush and recieve, 50 yards per pass point, 6 points per TD, - 2 per lost fumble, int.)

I'm looking at Edge, S. Jackson, Ronnie Brown, and Rudi Johnson at the 8th pick (the big 3 will be gone, and I assume Portis & Barber will be too) Then I'm considering Chad Johnson or Tory Holt with my #2 pick (5th in the 2nd round...I can't imagine Steve Smith being there still) or would a McGahee or Brian Westbrook be good enough at that slot?

I know this is way too long a post and it makes it uninviting for people to read through all this, but anyone who wants to tackle even a little bit or start discussing their own strategies or plans (if you're not in a BP League already that is, so you don't divulge your own info before your draft). I'm just trying to get as many opinions on as many topics this year as possible.

Good luck to you all this season!

Lazlo- Thanks for getting in, I could be for changing to fractional points if the other guys want to do that as well. It can be frustrating seeing that running back need to get 1 more yard to get to the next point level and giving fractional points would be a way to end that problem.

Padraig- For years, I have followed the "draft two rb's at all costs to start the draft" strategy and I have to say that it doesn't always work for me. It can be tough to take the 14th or so rated running back with that second pick when a top 3 receiver or quarterback can be taken at that same spot. I guess it just depends who is still available when you pick and trying to stick to your draft gameplan whether that is the running back strategy, pick best available player, etc. The only thing I know for sure is when the draft comes, whoever takes the first scUM player (probably Brady), will be taking some crap from me!

We start: QB WR WR WR RB RB W/R TE D K

This is a keeper league. I can keep two:
DeAngelo kept for 8th
White kept for 7th
Gore draft 1st
Romo draft 4th
Manningham waiver wire
Favre waiver wire

My lineup:

QB Favre
WR White
WR Boldin
WR Manningham
RB Gore
RB DeAngelo
W/R Kev Smith
TE Gonzalez
D Tennessee (situational add/drop)
K Folk

Bench QB: Romo, McNabb, Young
Bench RB: Taylor, Coffee
Bench WR; Holmes, Cribbs

I want: better WRs. Most league teams with good wrs already have equal/better qb(s) than mine, except for 1:

QB Ryan
WR Wayne
WR Moss
WR Welker
RB Turner
RB R Williams
W/R Moreno
TE Shiancoe
D Denver
K Crosby

Bench Buffalo, Harvin, Crabtree, Knox, Mason, Sproles, Bush

Trade I'd like to propose:

QB/Cribbs for Harvin/Crabtree

Am I giving up too much? Not getting enough? I feel like it's a gamble, but one that could pay off and I can afford to make with my other qbs.

If it's a good plan, which QB would you dump? All three have tough playoff stretches.

For years, this league has started 2 qbs (which is challenging). Of course, the year they moved to 1 (which I prefer), I have 3 great qbs

Hmmm...he's got Ryan, so you're going to have to offer a legit starter probably for him to bite. So, I'd say dump Romo if you want a trade. Do you get ST yards/TDs for individual guys? If not, then Cribbs (and Harvin, for that matter) doesn't buy anyone much really. If you really want to pull the trigger (and don't get ST TDs for individuals), then maybe Romo and Manningham for Crabtree and Knox/Harvin? Harvin and Knox both return kicks and have TDs doing so, but if they don't matter, then they both are options, though not first options, in the passing game. Honestly, I think it would be a more equal trade to go Romo/Manningham for Welker/Knox or Harvin, but since they aren't desperate for a QB, I doubt they'd bite on that.

As for your keepers, looks like Williams and White in a no-brainer...Gore is too injury prone as a keeper at the 1 to me.

No yards, just tds for ST. Cribbs is just a throw-in really, he's my worst player (since Taylor can do nice things if/when Peterson goes down).

Do you think they'd go for Romo/Cribbs - Harvin/Crabtree?

I thought about dumping Holmes, but I can't afford to let go of any wrs at this point. Mike Wallace really spoiled that draf tpick.

I don't trust Romo at all. They have a great running game and he can disappear for weeks. If Favre & McNabb stay healthy, I trust those two a lot more.

Obviously Williams is a lock (barring injury), I brought up keepers because Harvin or Romo could have solid value at the end of the year, and that's a factor - albeit minor - in this trade brainstorming. I probably keep the same two though, unless Mario steps up big time.

I bet they would go for that...especially if you want to dump Romo.
