Got a good bit of mention this morning on Mike & Mike.

They were talking about the ills of college ball with the Rutgers coach fiasco and the PAC 10 refs and then read Deshaun's letter to the Lantern as an example of someone doing something great.

Kudos to you for making Buckeye Nation proud Deshaun!

And the thing about basketball is that the NBA is not the only avenue of decent salary for an American player. Jon Diebler made well over $100k in his first European contract. Casey Jacobsen (remember him from Stanford?) is making over $1 million/yr in Germany.

Not necessarily. If he's outside of the top 30 in the NBA draft, as is posted elsewhere in this thread, he could make a lot more money by improving his draft stock with a stellar senior season. Yes, it comes with the risk of injury, but if he moves into the top 15 of next year's draft we're talking million$.

I can't recall any player in recent history improving their draft stock from their junior to senior year. The general rule is that if you aren't a first round pick by then, you won't be one. You give up a year's salary either in the NBA or overseas by staying.

Agreed. He's missing out on at least $1 million untaxed overseas next year if he stays.

The problem is not so much his skills though better ball handling and defense will help hi but his physical limitations that are hurting his draft stock so I'm not sure he gans a lot by coming back other then getting a degree and once last shot atgoing the distance in the NCAA.

There have been many but I see his point, there is always a risk, but you can always take an insurance policy out (even if his won't be for much, it's something to fall back on at least).

A few upper classman have come back and increased their stock, i.e. Jeff Withey (sr), Erick Green (sr) and Oladipo (jr). If Deshaun came back and worked on going after the boards harder and his footwork on perimeter defense I could definitely see himself improving his stock. Will it be a ton? No, but it doesn't have to be....all he has to do is improve it enough to get into the late first round and get that guarenteed contract.

Maybe not for all countries, but its a pretty well known tidbit that players from the USA enjoy that untaxed salary. Although sometimes with lower tier clubs they might not see it all, or it might be late.
