The Thomas watch
Thomas was named to the 10-man Wooden All-American team and voted a third-team Associated Press All-American yesterday. He has a year of eligibility remaining but is expected to forgo it and make himself available for the NBA draft. For one, he has a 1-year-old son to help support. For another, he?ll never play the small forward position at Ohio State that he will as a pro, so why come back? He might be a second-round draft pick, depending how his workouts go, but he?ll get paid by somebody next season. Matta said on WBNS radio last night that he probably will meet with Thomas today and ?try to map something out for him.? An NCAA rule that took effect last year prevents players who have declared for the draft from changing their mind after April 16.
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2013/04/21109/youre-pretty-classy-deshaun-thomasAs a basketball player at Ohio State, I am both proud and honored that our university follows our sport the way they do. It is a privilege to play for Ohio State, to be a part of winning the Big Ten Tournament this year, and to have made it to the Elite Eight.
I know that athletes in other sports that do not get much press coverage are also winning championships. Just two weekends ago, Logan Stieber won his second-consecutive national championship in his weight class in wrestling, and senior Marco Canevari marked the Scarlet and Gray?s single individual champion title in fencing by securing the gold medal in men?s epee on March 22. A day later, gymnasts Sarah Miller and Aly Marohn captured the Big Ten championship on the balance beam.
Last Tuesday, The Lantern featured an article in which athletic director Gene Smith talked about how Ohio State isn?t just a football school. He talked about the success of our basketball team. It would be good to remember that in the other sports, there is a lot of success too.
All athletes at Ohio State work very hard at being the best they can be at their sport. I wish that all athletes could receive the attention that our football and basketball teams get. They all deserve to be celebrated.

[/URL]Ford said DT still slated to be 2nd round pick, but only because he has limitations that will always be there: athleticism, defense, size.
Ford said he couldn't find an NBA scout or GM right now who has Deshaun Thomas in their Top 30 at the moment.

DeShaun has demonstrated that he can score against anyone. His defensive "liabilities" have largely been overblown. As I said elsewhere, Thomas will make some GM look really, really smart whenever he ultimately is drafted.

The one thing that I didn't realize about DT is that he really has no handle whatsoever. He tried to push the ball up court twice against Wichita and it resulted in two turnovers, bad ones. Personally if I was an NBA GM I would not take him. If I was a college coach I take him every day of the week because he is a top 15 college player. He is strictly a catch and shoot player and a 35% 3pt catch and shoot player at that. Just doesn't translate to the NBA.MaxBuck;2324462; said:It's interesting to me that with some players, scouts seem myopic about their limitations and with others, they're myopic about perceived potential.
