F DeShaun "The Diesel" Thomas (Panathinaikos - Greece)

Relax. Not "calling him out". The reports I read were not glowing even if he was leading the scoring in "scrimmages". So I don't follow every basketball scrimmage like some here. It's my fill in Buckeye sport. Like between football season and football recruiting season. :tongue2:

You were bemoaning his fall from grace over "scrimmages", which you are laughably using as a meaningful weapon against him but dismissing when it comes to the good parts. That isn't inconsistent at all.

The one who needs to relax is the guy bringing up why he has maxed out and was so overrated before he even takes his first shot.

- Some comments from Ohio State coach Thad Matta:

... ON DESHAUN THOMAS: I couldn't be happier with Deshaun right now. . . . I've really talked to him about just bringing the right mindset in knowing that you've got a lot to learn. His work ethic has been great. The one thing Deshaun can do is put the ball in the basket. The big thing we've got to get him to understand is you gotta stop the other guy down at the other end from scoring, too."

Freshman forward Deshaun Thomas had eight points and six rebounds in 20 minutes at power forward.

"Two days ago he probably had his best practice at Ohio State. I couldn?t be happier where he is and the progress he?s made," Matta said.

"The rotations he was making defensively, he?s seeing things. He got burned the first time on dribble penetration, and probably the next five times he guarded his yard and did a heck of a job."

Defense is key at OSU, says former Luers star Deshaun
He has had a big adjustment to play for the Buckeyes.
By Tom Davis
of The News-Sentinel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? There have been a lot of adjustments made by Deshaun Thomas as he embarks on his collegiate basketball career.

The Ohio State freshman has been worked into the best physical shape of his life by the Buckeye training staff. And for the first time in his basketball career, Thomas is not starting each game.

Oh, and then there is that whole defensive thing that he's also had to adjust to.

When asked what has been the most difficult challenge for him since arriving in Columbus almost five months ago, Thomas didn't hesitate.

?I would say my defense and my defensive positioning (on the floor),? he said. ?I've gotten better as I've listened to the coaches and been paying attention to what they tell me to do.?

I believe I made a post earlier in the thread about Thomas knowing how to put the ball in the basket (which Coach Matta agreed with). Yes, I'm patting myself on the back. My son and I were at the game. Mr. Thomas was a pleasure to watch.

BTW, there's a Mexican restaurant near Varsity Inn North. Stay away from it. Not recommended.

El Vaquero. Used to be the best. Haven't been there in around a year, but it was a deterioration in quality that caused me to stop going regularly. Rancho Alegre on 33 is better.

Thomas layed out some poor A&T kid on a screen late in the game. It was almost vicious. Not that Thomas was looking to be dirty, just that he's put together and he didn't have much "give" in him when contact was made. (Sully is a beast too, I should add)

Like I said on the game thread, when he is "into" it, he can dominate. Of course, we'll have to see if he can do it against better competition, but he sure looked good tonight.
