Chris Jent likely to return to Buckeyes
The Columbus Dispatch • TUESDAY APRIL 12, 2016 1:51 PM

Chris Jent will interview to return to Ohio State and fill the void left by Jeff Boals on Thad Matta’s coaching staff, a source within the program confirmed to The Dispatch today.

The interview likely will be little more than a formality. Another source indicated that Jent is at Value City Arena today and on the court as players are working out in a non-official capacity.

"Could this be Thad's successor."

What!
Based on what?
The fact he has never been a HC anywhere but for an non-distinquished stint in the D-League?

And OSU should never and I mean ever hire an assistant, with the possible exception being if they were coming of a hugely successful run and the HC leaves/retires on his own accord.

The name Chris Jent may mean something to out of shape 40+ year old crackers but it holds no sway among the 17 year old AAU circuit generation.

I have no issue with him being hired as an assistant. I posit the pool of candidates isn't/wasn't attractive given Thad's long term forecast.

Could this be Thad's successor.

I know Matta has health issues; but I don't really know how much pain he is in and/or how long he will want to coach. I guess if his back doesn't get better (see article below), he might want to opt for some type of administrative (i.e. desk) job or just flat out retire in the near future. But he is only 48, he could be the coach for another 10 - 15 years.
