Ex-Wolverine BS (all merged - including the tearful goodbyes)

good for you.... however, you still could have been one if you took out student loans (guess I cannot bitch too much, my wife got 2/3 of this year covered.... we paid 4/6 of her quarters though :( ).

Get your football tickets NOW!!! (my wife waited a bit before her first year of grad school, and got closed out... needless to say I was a bit upset!!)

Outstanding, Ex. Welcome. I remember getting that fellowship offer after Illinois (of all places) had told me thanks, but no thanks. I would've turned them down, if OSU had called first. What area/department will you be in?

Rugby,

Strangely enough, my OSU advisor sent me the e-mail about the availablity of the assistantship just minutes after my last choice informed me that my "guaranteed" funding had fallen through. I called the contact person at OSU and the rest is glorious history.

I will be a Sport Studies MA student. Please, no jokes. I think you all realize how important sport is, both as a business and as recreation. One big area of interest to me is fan identification, and I can't say that I have ever seen a group of fans more passionate about their team than OSU fans. I mean that. And I look forward to studying that while I am in Columbus.

The beauty part is, OSU is seen almost universally as having the best program in the US for both Sport Management and Sport Studies. The other school was not even on the radar.

To everyone else,

Thank you for the well wishes. Being a Buckeye will be a strange transition after being a Wolverine my entire life, but as some of you remember from my prior posts, I have a deep hatred for the University of Michigan (outside of five profs in my old department and a couple of people in administration...and Janelle of course  ).

There's an OSU hat at the store here that I have had my eye on, and I didn't want to buy it and have things fall through again (I had applied for in-state status, which MIGHT have allowed me to attend on loans...it was a longshot though). My birthday was a couple days ago, and I have been putting off getting myself something. I think that hat needs to go on my head tonight!

Also, not to get too personal, but I also FINALLY got a job today as well. This is one of the best days of my life (which isn't saying much).

Thank you all for being so kind to me!

That's great, Ex. I actually am somewhat familiar with the program. I spoke at a sports mgmt seminar at the Univ. West Georgia a month or so ago and one of the hosting professors had just wrapped up his PhD from your new department. FWIW, I think you're right, there couldn't be a better setting for your field. Best of luck.

Congrats! It's always nice to add a convert to the Buckeye Nation.

The resume line is true- that will be a good icebreaker for interviewers who know the story. I interviewed for a couple of jobs in ann arbor years ago, and they all wondered what the hell I was doing there looking for a job with "The Ohio State University" at the top of my resume.
