Ex-LSU QB Ryan Perrilloux (official thread)

A strong opinion from Stewart Mandel.

Do the right thing
LSU's Miles should dismiss troubled QB Perrilloux

...

Miles' ongoing handling of Perrilloux has become the most high-profile double standard in all of college football, one made all the more glaring by the spotlight that comes with winning a national championship and the fact that Perrilloux, last December's SEC title game MVP, is no longer a backup. If anything, he's arguably the Tigers' most indispensable player heading into next season, seeing as their only other quarterback options are a freshman who redshirted last season (Jarrett Lee), an incoming freshman (Jordan Jefferson) or a walk-on transfer from Harvard (Andrew Hatch).

...

In fairness, we don't know what personal circumstances might have led to Perrilloux shirking his responsibilities. For one, his biological father recently passed away, though the Times-Picayune reported that the two were not close and that Perrilloux had begun to run astray before that.

...

During the Tigers' championship run last season, Miles became synonymous with his unusually bold calls. It's time for him to make what would be his boldest call yet: To send his star quarterback packing.

Suspended LSU QB Perrilloux not expected at spring practice

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux is not expected to be on the field when the Tigers open spring practice Friday.

Perrilloux was suspended indefinitely last week by coach Les Miles, who would say only that the 21-year-old had violated unspecified team rules.

The expected absence was announced Tuesday by LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette.

ESPN - LSU's Miles doesn't address Perrilloux's status as spring drills loom - College Football

BATON ROUGE, La. -- When defending national champion LSU opens spring practice Friday, the two quarterbacks who led the Tigers last season won't be there.

Matt Flynn, the offensive MVP of the BCS Championship game against Ohio State, is trying to make it in the NFL. The Tigers knew they'd be without Flynn this year. He's a fifth-year senior.

Ryan Perrilloux's absence is unexpected. The MVP of the SEC championship game, expected to replace Flynn as the starter next season, has been suspended indefinitely.
I am not going to spend a lot of time thinking and talking about [Perrilloux]," said Miles at a pre-spring practice news conference Wednesday. "I am focusing on the guys who are competing for a position on this team now. I'd appreciate if you don't ask me any more questions about him."
AP: LSU quarterback Perrilloux returns from suspension, but still not practicing

LSU quarterback Perrilloux returns from suspension, but still not practicing

1 hour, 34 minutes ago

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux returned from a suspension, and hopes to be allowed soon to practice with the team.

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette said Thursday that there is no timetable for Perrilloux, who finished last season as the expected heir apparent for the starting job, to return to the field.

"He's no longer suspended, which means he has some privileges back, but one of the privileges he?s not been able to regain is the ability to practice with the team," Bonnette said.

LSU coach Les Miles suspended Perrilloux indefinitely in February, shortly before spring practice began, for unspecified team violations.

Perrilloux's former high school coach, who remains close to the quarterback and his family, has said Perrilloux missed a mandatory team meeting, then missed classes to attend his father?s funeral without notifying coaches.

I would hope that after 3 times being in trouble and being suspended that a player would be thrown off the team and out of his scholarship if he does that at OSU.

I mean IMO, if LSU had a freakin second option at quaterback he'd be gone already.... but, how convienent is it that he is going to be given a not a 2nd, not a 3rd, but a FOURTH yes 4th chance. IMO, its a bad move by LSU and sends the opposite message that you'd hope to send your team from this situation.

If you're given a free scholarship just because you have athletic ability and you can't stay out of trouble, then you should not be given the PRIVELAGE to have a fully paid education. It's a privelage to be given a scholarship, not a free pass to do whatever the hell you want. You represent the school that gives you that scholarship, and if you can't represent it up to standards (IE: Staying out of trouble) then you shouldn't be representing that school.

If you don't wanna read what I just said I can sum it up for you... Bad move LSU.

I wonder how we'd feel if this was a Buckeye in question? Oh wait, he'd have been gone already...sorry, forgot what I was thinking there for a minute.

RP ain't gonna practice at all this spring. Not 100% of the reason just yet. Miles is apparently gonna have a press conference this evening sometime.

Rumor mill is in full swing, ranging from:

 • not finfished his requirements to rejoin team
 • family health issues
 • an incident at a chinese restaurant
So who knows what is real and what ain't.

WJBO has learned that quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will not be participating in Spring practice at all this year. Sources tell us that this time it stems from an incident at a local restaurant over the weekend.
From what I heard, he got into an argument of some kind of with the wait staff at the resteraunt.. don't know if this true, but what I was told.
