ESPN College Gameday (official thread)

Here's the response if you're interested: (Doubt it, but you guys are wankers. :) )

Flirting will get you nowhere.

.../snip/...To suggest that espn is trying to profit from
the va tech tragedy is insulting and wrong.../snip/...

Of course they are trying to profit from it. Like all media outlets they are a FOR PROFIT organization. They tell the stories they think will generate the most interest and thus MAKE THE MOST MONEY.

To suggest otherwise is being disingenuous at best.

Bravo to Wojo to responding to the petulant letter ("We had it first"?!...Come on you can't be serious) unfortunately he loses any credit by climbing up on a high horse and throwing BS at the crowd.

Well that was a little too personal for what was called for;

The letter wasn't written like a 12 "y/o" :roll2:

The fact that you don't agree with an opinion doesn't make it written like an adolescent.

I don't want to turn this into a pissing match about or education or ability to compose an argument.

But the fact that you're unable to cope with an opposing opinion and then a lighthearted brush-off ("nyah nyah") seems to suggest that one of us has the composure of a twelve year old. :wink2:

Yes I probably came across too harsh, feel free to ding me for that.

It's not about education or intelligence it's about tone.

I can guarantee you just about anyone who received that letter complaining "It isn't fair...we had it first...we deserve..." isn't likely to give the opinion of the writer much weight.

It has nothing to do with whether I agree with you or not.

Personally I don't think ESPN's move was anything more than a publicity stunt but that is certainly their prerogative....hell it's their business.

My goodness you have been so on the money in this entire thread. The fact that some young man thinks his school "deserves" Gameday is just foolish. ESPN picks a site based upon numerous factors that all add up to storylines, ratings, etc. It's their show, their right, and they apparently do a damn good job of it because it's the highest rated show out there.

And if some Cal fan, or anyone else for that matter, thinks their fanbase needs this, then the fanbase is missing the boat entirely and clearly doesn't "deserve" anything. We watch college football because it is the most fantastic sporting event ever to have been created. Not because 3 amusing fellas talk about it for 3 hours beforehand.

Gameday's a 2-hour show. It just seems like 3 while anxiously awaiting the actual games to start. :wink2:

Growing up I thought that Gameday was always at the best matchup/game of the week. This is def. not the game of the week nor the best matchup of the week. ESPN is there for the money it's obvious, and it's a shame.

There are some of us who watch college football even in SPITE of the idiot talking heads who survive off its popularity. Gameday could do a broadcast from the middle of Australia for all I care. I have never once in my life decided that I should watch game X because Gameday is on the scene. Nor have I declined to watch a game I wanted to because Gameday did not deem it "important enough"

What money are they getting by going to VT?

Don't get me wrong....I think they're picking that game for all the wrong reasons (so they can do yet another fluff piece and seem like they give a shit), but I doubt they'll get any more or less money by going there instead of Cal (for example).

I have always watched whatever game was on TV on whatever channel, I like watching gameday but I think they should be at the best game of the week. I will still watch the games regardless.

I truly hate sticking up for ESPN under any circumstance, but here they are truly between a rock and a hard place.

  1. Hold GameDay at VT and they get ridiculed for having a false facade about a tragedy which had nothing to do with football. They get ripped for acting like they care.
  2. Hold GameDay somewhere else and they should be ashamed of themselves because there's more to life than football, and holding GameDay elsewhere is disrespectful to VT.
