That crash made Thump have to backroad it to work today. Gotta love the scenic route that takes you past Scioto Downs.

One was a young who was in a hurry to cut in front of me and the other was an old guy (who could barely see over the wheel) who just started to get over in my lane without even seeing me. BTW... I drive a Extended Trailblazer so it's hard to beleive I was in either of their blind spots.

Having lived near London oh these many years gone by I can tell you that it is a great system. It cost a boatload of cash to build, (though due to terrain simplicity less than than the more challenging New York Subway). The one thing that works in its favor is the HUUGE population that surrounds and daily uses the Tube. Plus, the Tube got up and running well ahead of the automotification of London itself, hence there is a cultural bias toward using the Tube in preference to other alternatives (like your car).Thump said:

Thing is the COTA system is not a true Mass Transit system. Its a suburban relay system with a pretty poor captive audience. Who really wants to ride COTA when they can get in their car? All that said, with the growing aged population the need to control renewed entry onto the freeways and roads by ageing folk with diminished abilities will become a concern. Not COTA, but more like the Motor Pool small vans that you could take into work in Columbus and larger cities. Perhaps a similar system will develop to fill the gap for the aged without driving priviliges. If family members and offspring are close, they should be given incentives to pick up the slack.

The only places in the US where mass transit works in where traveling by car is a major pain in the ass (NYC, etc). They're trying to ram a monorail system down the public's throat here in Honolulu...while the traffic is fairly bad during rush hours, there's no need for it yet and even when they do build one the only fuckers that will ride it are those who don't have cars (elderly, pre-16 kids, the mentally-ill), just like what's happening here in TheBus system. And as pointed out above, traveling by car is just ingrained into our mindset.

This thread has been focusing on seniors, but has anyone else noticed the number of young females (ala this morning's crash) who drive aggressively? Half the people who cut me off anymore look like teenage girls (maybe they are just trying to get my attention).
I have a niece in Arkansas (no - we were never married) who does physical rehabiliation for young folks - mostly accident victims. She says that the past couple of years almost all of here patients have been teenage girls.
