Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim

I played Oblivion on PC and got Skyrim for PS3. There are times where I can't seem to move the way I want on the console during a fight in FP view. Sometimes I switch to third person to help. I think its because can't just have a quick look around to see if something is beside/in front of me without impeding my movement. I am always accidently hitting the sneak button when I am fighting. The graphics look great on my 50" plasma for PS3 although there are some drawing issues and very slight pop up issues if you are on flat ground and there are large trees/people in the distance. Nothing too bad and it is not that noticeable. That said PC is always the way to go if you have a capable machine. Better controls, better mods, ability to get better graphics if you have a sweet setup.

Thanks for the answers, guys. It will be awhile before I tackle this one, between work, holidays, BF3 and the long list of other titles coming out this season, but this thread has me excited for it.

I'd recommend playing the Bethesda stuff on PC, because of the mods and DLC - Bethesda is great at supporting the mod community. There is just so much more out there on PC that there is really no comparison when you look at previous titles this gen (Oblivion, Fallout 3). Having Skyrim in Steam is nice too since it puts the game on any PC you may use.

FYI, if anyone has seen the $40 deluxe Prima guide (600pg full color hardcover with ribbon bookmarks), Overstock.com has them available right now for $21.

Just ordered one for myself. :)

I'm tempted to buy it... What does it get me beyond what can be found at UESPWiki, aside from the fact that all that information is available now rather than waiting for the wiki to be updated?

I'm trying to avoid using too many spoilers or walkthroughs - at least with this first tour of the game. I did sneak a peek once last night. Sometimes you get a quest in a game like this where they're trying to make you choose between two morally ambiguous paths, and then drop some sort of game or character-crippling surprise on you once you make your choice. I don't mind surprises in the game, but not that kind, especially since I usually play a "good" character my first time thru.

The book is reported to have taken over 2000 hours to compile. Every quest, item, NPC, monster, etc is broken down, but there is also a code to redeem for the jumbo interactive map off Prima's site, which they sell for $15 on it's own.

Overstock sold out a couple of hours ago though, and Amazon is out too. Secondary market prices on Amazon marketplace and eBay are already at $70 and up.

Yikes.

I'll stick with the wiki. It served me well for Oblivion and by the time that I'll actually want to use it, it should be pretty robust.

I got the book.... I have not looked at any of the quest walkthrough at all yet.... Mostly I wanted to be able to read about all of the skills and leveling in detail so I could build a character I would be happy playing all the through with..

I joined the Companions last night. I started on a quest at 11PM that seemed like a simple go-and-fetch. The objective always seemed right around the corner, but it took 3-1/2 hours (and I didn't die once). I guess that's what I get for playing this game like it's Splinter Cell. It's too much fun being a sniper though.

I've been pleasantly surprised by hireling AI so far too. I was able to do that quest with one and for the most part he stayed behind me, in sneak mode while I did my thing with my bow. I'm used to followers just boldly and blindly herp derping into every combat situation and putting my character at a disadvantage, unless I tell him to wait in another room 200 yards away. I didn't tell my follower to wait once on this quest, and he only tried to fuck me over 2 or 3 times.

*Spoiler Alert*

I was disappointed to find that the Companions (essentially the Fighters' Guild, renamed) have an embedded secret society of werewolves. I really don't want to play as a werewolf of vampire. If I were interested in that shit I'd join a Twilight book club with my wife. I hope there's a branch in this questline that allows me to root those people out of the group rather than having to join them. If not, I might just kill 'em anyway.

Walking up 7000 steps to get mauled by ice trolls is one thing.

Cresting a mountain range and stumbling upon this is another ...

This game is bad ass.

I haven't been able to play for a couple days. If dealing with cocaine addiction is anything like this, I understand why it's so hard to stop.

I finished the mage questline. Pretty short to be honest, but I enjoyed it. Can't wait to start the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild stuff.

PCs are more expensive....although maybe it would run on my work computer?

Oh, that's a very, very bad idea.

They are more expensive for sure. But the mods are going to keep this game going long after I finish everything in the retail version. They made another entire game out of Oblivion for PC. A different game entirely, it just looked like Oblivion. Crazy stuff.
