Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim

I did my first major upgrade this fall since I purchased this PC in 2008. I only paid about $550 originally for my Q6600 2.4ghz Dell Inspiron. I added ram I already had to get to 4 GB at that time.

I purchased a 560 TI DS that came with Batman Arkam City for $230 with reward points from debit card and overall I've been very pleased with it.

I'm able to run at 1650x1024 (native) BF3 at high detail and Skyrim at Ultra - everything at stock speeds. To me that was a HUGE upgrade and well worth it. Batman for PC will be released this week and I'll likely be able to run that at very high settings.

When I was a PC gamer back in the late 90s and early 2000s upgrading your PC was necessary every year or two. I think the value is certainly here now to upgrade since it lasts so much longer. CPUs are no longer outdated every year or two, same with RAM, GPUs, MOBOs, etc.

I was actually looking forward to coming to work today and having an excuse to pry the Xbox controller out of my hands. I feel like shit this morning from lack of sleep and too many late nights telling myself "just one more quest and then I'll go to bed". Good thing I don't have kids and have a wife who doesn't care how much time I spend gaming as long as I tend to her basic needs.

I tied one on Sat. night after the loss to Penn State and after my fourth Scotch I must have blacked out a bit. On Sunday morning I load up my last saved file and explore the shops and homes of a city. Well, every single building was littered with dead bodies - I sort of remember going on a killing rampage but didn't think it was this extensive. And the guards weren't bothering me and there wasn't a bounty on my head so I'm not sure how I got away with it. Now I can't sell or buy any equipment in this city since I killed all the shop owners and I wonder how many other quests I'm missing because I killed off a few main characters. Oh well, I still have about two dozen open missions and have barely started the main quests.

Damn I love this game.

I've encountered a bug with the radiant quests in Danwstar. It doesn't clear "Collect Bounty from Skald" from my journal whenever I speak with him to finish those quests. I have at least three instances of that stacked in my journal now, which is getting kinda annoying. I read that Bethesda might be releasing a patch for consoles next week, so I hope this is something that gets taken care of.

Also I found a couple videos showing how some people are already creating superweapons, like enchanted bows that do 1300+ DMG and can take out dragons with one hit. Apparently potions that enhance alchemy, enchantment and smithing are stackable, and after you use some potions to enchant really powerful gear to enhance smithing you can stack that gear with those potions to smith really powerful gear to enhance enchanting. Stack that gear with potions that also enhance enchanting and well, if I managed to make this clear at all you can already see the multiplier effect.

I might give this a try on my second run-through of the game. Once I play the game honestly the first time, I like to go back to try out all the crazy exploits, using them to be a total bastard to every NPC in the game. In Oblivion I did 100% Chameleon, and in Morrowind I did a sword with constant effect: absorb health that made me pretty much invincible.

EDIT: Also, Jarl Skald's voice sounds like Uncle Jack from Arrested Development.

Holy crap, I won't give it away, but there's a cavern that's at least 1/4 size of the entire above ground map (+ you have to go through another massive underground city and obtain a special key just to get there).

This game is just amazing.
