I did my first major upgrade this fall since I purchased this PC in 2008. I only paid about $550 originally for my Q6600 2.4ghz Dell Inspiron. I added ram I already had to get to 4 GB at that time.
I purchased a 560 TI DS that came with Batman Arkam City for $230 with reward points from debit card and overall I've been very pleased with it.
I'm able to run at 1650x1024 (native) BF3 at high detail and Skyrim at Ultra - everything at stock speeds. To me that was a HUGE upgrade and well worth it. Batman for PC will be released this week and I'll likely be able to run that at very high settings.
When I was a PC gamer back in the late 90s and early 2000s upgrading your PC was necessary every year or two. I think the value is certainly here now to upgrade since it lasts so much longer. CPUs are no longer outdated every year or two, same with RAM, GPUs, MOBOs, etc.
