This must be Max's day, as I agree with him as well.

Ugh, I need a shower now.

I LOVE this part about Bielema.

That being said I am steadfastly on the side of a University President shouldn't be saying some of what he said. And he knew this was being recorded. You'd get fired at 99% of corporate America for this. I realize he isn't a corporate CEO, but in his position at a recorded event some of his stuff is a no-no.

Add first-year Arkansas coach Bret Bielema to the list of people, schools, conferences, religions and just about everybody else that Ohio State president Gordon Gee insulted during a meeting of the university's Athletic Council back in December.

You can hear Gee's remarks in their entirety by clicking here.

He didn't hold back on anybody, but he really unloaded on Bielema, who left Wisconsin to take the Arkansas job back in December. Bielema led the Badgers to three straight Big Ten championships.

"That was a blessing for Wisconsin, and they knew it because he was under tremendous pressure and they didn't like him," Gee said of Bielema's leaving Wisconsin for Arkansas. "Barry Alvarez thought he was a thug, and (Bielema) left just ahead of the sheriff. That's exactly what happened with him."

Wow!

Think Bielema and Alvarez have spoken since Gee's remarks went public?.

I was on a plane all day yesterday, so I just saw this whole shitstorm today.

I wish he'd think a little before making these jokes, but this is far less embarrassing to me than the, "I hope JT doesn't fire me" idiocy.

Gee's always been a mixed bag: you get the off the cuff jokes, bow ties and schtick, but you also get a 2.5 billion dollar fundraising campaign and almost a billion a year in research funding. I'll accept the former to get the latter.

On the whole, he said some politically incorrect things that are absolutely true. Those god damned ND priests can't be trusted. They only believe in taking and never giving. The SEC is a collection of vastly mediocre (and worse) colleges outside of Vandy and Florida. Louisville or Kentucky would NEVER be considered for Big Ten membership. Just because people don't like hearing the above doesn't make it any less true.

Karen Holbrook proved that the fruit isn't that low hanging. At least Gee is smart enough to direct his barbs at other groups outside of the alumni base.

By almost any measure, Karen Holbrook leaves Ohio State University a richer institution than when she arrived five years ago.
The university's budget, assets, endowment and research funds all are up about 50 percent or more since Holbrook took office in October 2002.

I've always considered the angst towards Holbrook to be off-base. I attended Ohio State during many of the riots on Chittendon, 13th, Norwich, etc. It's really hard to argue with many of her statements about the behavior of the students back then. We were crazy.

All Holbrooke did was execute the plan of gee 1.0.

Better than that clown kirwan though. What a douche.

So, the SEC can't read or write, Bielema is a thug and Delaney is greedy.....oh, and he made a religious joke about Catholics that didn't include a reference to priests molesting children. Fuck him for having a sense of humor. Next thing you know, he will say that he supports the military. Honestly, who gives a [Mark May] (other than a bunch of people looking for a reason to be offended)? I agree with just about everything he said. Max is right, move this [Mark May] to the pussification of America thread.

I don't particularly have a problem with that, but, Gee took that foundation and continued forward... they didn't bring them back after the other two idiots because of their dynamic leadership.

I think Holbrooke gets more of a bad rap than she deserves probably, but, maybe the big difference is that the unfortunate things that come out of Gee's mouth are partly goofy and folksy, while the things out of Holbrooke's mouth come off as bitchy and annoyed.

As to Kirwan, he's the only one of the 3 that my Fraternity had to file an injunction in Federal Court for violating the 3rd amendment....
