That might not necessarily be a bad thing. Id hate to lose Heacock and to some extent Drayton, Johnson and Vrabel, but this team just doesn't seem to be improving throughout the year like they should be.

They've improved, just not much.. I could see Drayton and Vrabel potentially sticking around if there is a head coaching change.

Looking back at all first-year head coaches of Ohio State in program history, the average win pct. in the first year is 61 percent.

So that would be 8-4 or 7-5 for Luke (as the average for 12 games).

It can also be said that Luke inherited MUCH more talent on this team than any other 1st year coach at OSU too.

It's not Luke's fault he inherited an incompetent offensive staff. But there's no evidence he has a network that would enable him to assemble a good one for next season.

I just don't want to see Fickell on the sideline next season. But this season's performance is in no way attributable only to his failures.

It's his fault when the D stinks it up...

Urban Meyer could devise a damn gameplan that would utilize our players. Urban kind find ways to make guys fit. Urban could have our offense playing better than it is now.
He is a proven winner, and would be a great addition.

If he says no, he says no. But if he would accept it, great.

That's all well and good, except the problem today wasn't necessarily the offense.

It was the 18-23 missed tackles.

He inherited a true freshman QB and a 6th year senior QB who should never have been more than a back up. The leading WR and RB from last year were suspended for 10 and 6 games, respectively. Only 3 senior starters, after losing Nate Williams in week one.

He may have inherited "talent", but he also inherited youth and inexperience. He also inherited a less than stellar offensive coordinator.

Two games left and eliminated from the Big Ten Championship game.

Might as well start faking punts and field goals and going "Les Miles" on PSU and TSUN.

If Bollman really has total control of the offense, I'd seriously think about telling him to screw himself and major decisions go through Fickell.

Don't hang this loss on Luke - it was all the refs.

There were numerous instances where Purdue had big gains after an Ohio State player had clearly tagged them with both hands below the waist. Yet the refs did not stop play.

I want to want Luke - but I don't.

As the season goes on this becomes more his team and less JTs. Yet we regress. Worst defensive play in years. Perhaps the worst first half of football I have ever seen from an OSU team.

Can one of those who still support handing one of the two or three premier jobs in all CFB to this inexperienced coach please point to something that has happened in the past two weeks that makes you say "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!"?

He had his chance.

Disagree. The team Tressel inherited will probably prove to be more talented than this one.

I think my only counter argument to this is that this is arguably THE youngest tOSU team in the Tressel/Fickell era. Even the '04 squad had a bit more experience than this one and they won 8-4 games too and they were fairly up and down too. I think they lost to Purdue the week before they beat Michigan. And that was without all of the distractions and NCAA BS hanging over our heads. I guess I'm kinda defending Fickell and kind of not. We've had some bad losses no doubt and I want the offensive staff pretty much gone save for Doc Tressel, but I'll be damned if this isn't the absolute worst situation to walk into to. The damnable thing is is that I don't even know if Fickell truly has the power to tell Bollman to go eff himself and call the plays.

Anywho, bring on Urban already.

To be fair to Luke, no first year HC at OSU has ever been given the job in June and unable to make changes to staff. I'm not advocating for him to remain HC. He wasn't ready for this job at this point in his career. That's not his fault, it was just a difficult set of circumstances.

We need an experienced coach. More importantly, we need a resolution to the NCAA mess. Big name coaches will want to know what kind of sanctions they are inheriting before committing to putting themselves in that situation.

This game wouldn't really change Luke's position if I were in charge. Let's not forget that losses @ Purdue with a Freshman QB were the norm under the Vest.

Gmafb. OSU has more talent on its third string than Indiana or Purdue has on their starting squads. Yet there we were tied at home with IU last week, and now the loss today. That's on the coaching staff, sorry to say.

I agree. Two weeks in a row and it looks like our staff has no idea how to game plan in order to exploit the other teams weaknesses. I know we have a young team and lapses happen...but this is beyond lapse. I just don't see the development of the offense at all.

I don't want to slam the staff, but I am just so excited to get some new proven offensive minds in here and see what all this talent could really do.
