And he's left a school unexpectedly for health related issues. That doesn't raise a red flag?

I'm not saying definitely no to Meyer, I'm saying you need to look at the entire picture, and there is some baggage with health and player arrest issues.

Not good for a school that will most likely be on probation for the next few years.

As for Urban turning around schools, he was a few years younger than he is now. I am not saying he is old now, but the same energy you had when you were 38 and putting it all into turning around Bowling Green and Utah is not the same energy you have when you are 48-53. If this is the reason for the burn out he had at Florida, thinking he is 36 and not 46, he is not getting younger. Having less energy and trying to get more out of yourself than is possible is a sure fire way to get burned out again. If he does come back to Ohio State, he is not coming back to win B1G championships and go to the Rose Bowl. He is coming back to win the national title. Anything less is going to put more pressure on him to do more to win it.

I agree, the health issues would definitely be of concern.

But:

You mean Fickel should go, because of Jaamal Berry? Or that Tressel should've been canned following the circus that went on for Maurice Clarett?
Cute. Reading comprehension not your strong suite?

There appeared to be a pattern of legal issues with FL players while Meyer was there. Also, the situation did not appear to be improving the longer he was there.

Urban's Age= Irrelevant

Nick Saban turned 60 on monday, 60. He's older (not by much) than Tressel.

Other coaches of note:
Pete Carrol: 60
Les Miles: 58
Bob Stoops: 51
Jim Harbaugh: 48
Chip Kelley: 48

I think Urban has plenty of coaching years left in him.

Is Fickell such a coaching prodigy that it warrants giving him the job right away? If he is anything other than one, giving him a few more years of experience won't hurt.

It seems like the coaches mentioned above know how to handle stress and were not burned out when they were 47.

Burned out? As in, he just made an excuse to leave because he was burned out on the sport? That could be, none of us would ever know what really happened. But even if that were the case, if he were willing to coach again, I'd take that as a sign that he'd accomplished what he needed to in his time away, and had regained his vigor. Re: Michael Jordan. Lost his desire to play after some serious family issues, left the sport for two years, then came back and won 3 championships.

When we have about 25 more players get arrested under Fickell then you can make the comparison with Meyer...

Okay, so to take your point a step further, you're basically saying you have to compare apples to apples. Flashing Super Bowl rings doesn't translate to BCS National Championship rings. Bringing in Charlie Weis, a guy who was a huge success at the pro level, didn't translate to BCS National Championship rings. What about Urban Meyer? Does having TWO BCS National Championship rings translate to winning BCS National Championship rings?

Well, Phil Fulmer and Larry Coker have BCS National Championship Rings...

I addressed them back in the "who will the coach be" thread, with a few others (Les Miles, et al), saying that some coaches have come in and won with another guy's team, but there are only a few who have really proven they can do it all on their own. And I think Meyer is definitely in that group. (the good group, not the slacker group) (Coincidentally, look back through the years and see how many coaches have won the NC in their 2nd year. It's really pretty amazing just how many it is.)

The whole 'clout' thing is crazy. Tell that to Diggs and Cyrus Jones. Both have talked about how much they love Fickell and hope he gets the job, even though neither has any interest in playing in the B1G.

Fickell is a tremendous recruiter. That should be the least of peoples concern if he gets the full time job. I'm truly torn on who I would rather have, but Fickell has started to find his way. Meyer would be nice, but I'm not as sold as most.

I have many, many concerns about the notion that we should be ready to place Luke Fickell on a long-term contract right now. But his ability to recruit is not one of those concerns. I have no question that Fickell can recruit with the best of them.
