Does anyone think there's a possibility of him returning to his former role? Or is this a situation where, once you've been promoted to a position, you don't go back down, even if it means going to a lower-caliber team? I realize it's a bit of a pipe dream, but with the whole "inter-rim" notion and all that, maybe?

Read back through this thread and the Head Coach Rumor thread and you'll get your answers...

Coach has done an amazing job under the most difficult circumstances an Ohio State coach has ever had to play a first season under. I have absolutely no problem with giving him a long term contract. He has grown as this team has grown.

Bill Livingston is impressed, also.

I much rather they explore every possiblity than go all in with coach at this point...lets see how they close out the year.

I could not agree more. I would be willing to bet that most on the team wants him to be their Head Coach. Having Braxton and the talent coming back next year, Dr. Lou could do well. Look at his resume every step that he has got more responsibility there is success.

1.) Taking over the job with a couple months to prepare.
2.) Recruited Vrabel out of the NFL to join him.
3.) Lose 7 key starters plus several others at the beginning of the season.
4.) Handle all the questions about your previous boss and distractions.
5.) Did the University a favor by not demanding more than a one year contract. If I was his agent OSU needed Fickell more than Fickell needed them.
6.) Have a true Freshman QB have to step right in.

Still be in the running to win the Championship. Braxton deserve much of this credit as well because without him Fickell is fired. Urban wants this job because the table is set for him to look like a genius again. As a Alumni I would rather reward Fickell and give him a three year contract and really give him the keys to the car like you will with any other coach that comes in.

Go Bucks..

Fickell may be losing his job regardless of performance.

If Penn State makes someone an actual offer, and it's someone Ohio State wants; then Ohio State may need to offer something better than, "The job is yours if we decide not to keep Luke."

This is Ohio State. Take a walk through Ohio Stadium and Buckeye Grove, and that's your recruiting clout, not a brand name head coach or flashing Super Bowl rings like Charlie Weis.

I agree to an extent. Our tradition and history of success distinguishes us from the vast majority of Division 1 schools. The key to being in the national title hunt year in and year out is distinguishing yourself from the other schools that share those qualities.

The question is, will this "person of interest" want to go into the State Penn situation as it is now? You have the stigma that is now attached to State Penn, you are following a legend and I don't know if they have the talent to win right away.
