Duke Blue Devils (that rat faced scumbag)

what'd you think of the charging fouls they called?

The only one that I thought was questionable (by the way they call charges nowadays) was the one on the jumper... But even with that one I think they called it the wrong thing... I think it was meant to be a push-off call...

Charging calls are horribly misused all over college b-ball anymore... I'm a season ticket holder at UD, and I can't even count how many charges have been called this year from a defensive player stepping under a guy while he's already in the air... You never used to be able to do that... But they call it a charge almost every time anymore...

What about the one Scheyer took when Reid was going to the hole. Still moving, and wasn't even close to square with him. Basically was sliding and got there with his shoulder and got a charge. You see the same thing?

I don't remember that one... I TIVOed the game and zipped through a couple parts... Where abouts is it? I'll have to go rewatch it... Sounds like, if it happened like you said, what I've been seeing a lot this year with charging calls... It's horribly called nationwide...

2nd half.....Reid (FSU's Center) takes the ball to the hoop and picks up a charging foul. Scheyer slid in ridiculously late, didn't even get in front of him AT ALL. Takes a charge with his shoulder, while moving into the player.

I don't normally look to commentators for verification, but in this case I'll use Jay Bilas, who said it was a terrible call.

Bilas also commented after the first half that FSU had to change their approach around the basket because they were afraid to pick up charging fouls, and the charging fouls were terrible calls.

It's one thing to make a mistake and make a bad call. It's another when officials make consistently terrible calls, especially in the case of Duke. Duke is known as a school of floppers, and rightfully so, yet get bullshit charges called in their favor every game.

It's amazing. I'd love for you to find the charge in the second half between Scheyer and Reid and let me know what you think. I looked for it on Youtube but unsuccessfully.

Greg Paulus just fooled the refs into giving him 3 FTs after getting touched (barely) with both feet on the ground 3 seconds after shooting a 3-pointer....

The guy came up, barely tapped his HAND, and Paulus flopped AGAIN :shake:

Hell it looked like he was hip-checked.....

It's going to be hilarious to watch Duke go down in flames against the first quality team they play in the NCAAs this year.

my favorite part of that exchange was the official coming up to Oglesby and explaining why he called a foul......I swear, these officilas must feel like dip-shits every time they make a call and then realize they were suckered into a call

Again, it amazes me Duke can continually flop, and get away with it

I cannot stand to watch ACC basketball. The officials always give UNC and Duke every call. The other night when UNC was playing GT Hansbrough should have been called for 3 seconds, over the back, travel, and offensive foul at least 15 times. The guy is a walking violation and they let him consistenly get away with it. Last year they called it in the tournament and that IMO is why UNC and Duke don't win more championships. They get advantageous officiating during the season and in the tournament the officiating isn't all ACC guys. They have enough talent as is the officiating in that conference needs to be non-biased. Watch a game in that conference when those two are playing...its ridiculous.

And then Duke's lapdog Mike Patrick just accused a Clemson player of flopping :slappy:

What the hell is wrong with Mike Patrick in general? Of all the commentators, and truthfully I don't like many, but he is absolutely the worst. If he could miss any more of the action I don't know what he would be watching. The guy just consistently gets it wrong in his analysis of games. You could show him a replay 1,213,456 times in football, and if the officials called it one way, that is 100% the direction he is going to go. The guy doesn't have a clue, ever.

Worst (objectively-I had no rooting interest) officiated game I have ever seen was the Tampa Bay vs. Washington Redskins playoff game a few years ago. It would have left the memory bank a very long time ago if it hadn't been for Mike Patrick complimenting the officilas every chance he got for such a fine officiating job the entire game. It was brutal. Maybe I can find some youtube footage of that ridiculous game.

I think Mike Patrick deserves his own thread honestly.

fixed it for ya brutus

I agree, very seldom do I watch ACC BBall for this exact reason, I'd need my blood pressure dosage upped. Hansborough is a good player, but I've never seen anyone get as many pitiful calls as him. He flops, acts like he is killed as he is driving to the hoop, slams into stationary opponents and still gets the calls.

If I remember right, Soccer in the ACC is very competitive, well a lot of ACC BBall players emulate soccer players with their "oh my gosh I was hit so hard I may die, oh the penalty cards out, I can get up now." No offense meant for any soccer players out there, tough sport, with tremendously conditioned athletes, just not my cup of tea.

Maybe worse than the pathetic officiating in the conference games is the look of utter astonishment when in the tournament the Duke and some UNC players don't get the same calls and they and their coaches have a cow.

All I'll say about Paulus is watch the ESPN interview with him after the game... He has a visible welt under his right eye, which is the one that he grabbed after that scrum on the floor...

And BTW... The fouls last night were Duke-19, FSU-22... So that discrepancy argument is flawed... And yes, I watched the game...
# of fouls isn't as important as when the fouls are called.

Worst. Intentional. Foul. Call. Ever.

It's funny when Mike Patrick continually rips opposing teams of Duke for flopping. Is this guy serious?

I didn't watch the game for a reason. A middling ACC team never has the opportunity to knock off Duke because the refs will make enough calls to prevent it.
