DT Tommy Schutt (Official Thread)

Just re-watched some junior year film of Tommy. Stylistically, his play reminds me quite a bit of Big Hank, though Tommy's in better shape than Hank was in HS and looks a little more athletic. He's a bowling ball. Uses his hands really well with a little burst to get some separation between him and the blocker(s) and makes plays, usually behind the line of scrimmage. Ohio State's S&C program could make him a monster.

Sounds like there's a lot of smoke with Tommy. Seems like its safe to say:

Tommy reminds me of a slightly larger Michael Bennett. Both are very explosive, and played on both sides of the ball. They could be monsters together on the d-line in the future. Love how Urban is recruiting right now. The freshman D-line haul this year will rival anyone's in the nation. Washington, Pittman, Schutt, and a strong possibility at Spence has me salivating. Add to the fact Urban has offered 4 other d-ends in the process. Clearly putting an emphasis on the D-line this year. I guess he has taken notice of LSU and their dominate unit...

Don't forget Alabama as well and spurrier has a heck of a d line in south Carolina as well. And I'm sure urban would like a dominant d line like last years auburn squad too. That's essentially what's separated the sec from everyone else. They have the fastest and most athletic d linemen. And they're mostly produced in the south. A haul of schutt, Washington, spence and Pittman would set us up lovely for the next 4-5yrs. Heck of a defensive foundation to start with. And then move on to dbs

So pumped about this one. I feel bad for Tommy with everything that has happened in his recruitment (having no room left at ND, trying to schedule a visit to UM, and then what happened at PSU), but I really feel OSU is a perfect fit for him and always have. He plays OSU-style defense and imo is a 5 star talent at DT. Though there isn't a huge need at DT, Simon is a senior and if Hank leaves as a junior (defintely possible), we will need someone to step into the rotation/possibly start right away (Schutt's second year here). Bennett should be a commodity and Bellamy will be a senior then, but Hale has yet to prove himself. Either way, with a talent like Tommy, I still think he gets on the field sooner rather than later.
