Tommy Schutt liked Ohio State when he visited the campus last winter and he likes it even more now.
Schutt, a Glenbard West defensive tackle, has withdrawn his commitment to Penn State and now is committed to the Buckeyes.
The 6-3, 301-pounder, who is ranked fifth nationally among defensive tackles and 52nd overall in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com, made an official visit to Ohio State over the weekend.
?I was impressed with everything it was about,? said Schutt, who had 14 sacks and 19 tackles for losses for the Hilltoppers this season. ?I was able to spend some time with some other commits. ... The whole situation at Ohio State was just too much to pass up.?
This might have happened sooner but for the forced resignation of former Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel earlier this year. ?Ohio State was one of my favorite schools when I visited in the winter,? Schutt said.
But after Tressel?s departure, ?I was kind of a little bit lost with them.?
He committed to Penn State before child molestation charges against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky led to upheaval in that program, which resulted in the firing of legendary coach Joe Paterno along with the school?s president and athletic director.
?It?s something I thought I had figured out once,? Schutt said of his recruiting. ?I guess it just wasn?t meant to be.?
