Not 20 yards, but still a frustrating game almost exactly 10 years ago in another certain coach's first road game...

The Minny game in 2000 was close though...I think he only ended up with 100 or so....I could easily be wrong and I'm not looking it up.

Also, wasn't there a Krenzel game (against PSU maybe??) where OSU had about 80 yards total passing??

The point is these clunkers showed up, but I don't think anyone had the same kind of feeling that they had after this game. The talent on offense from 2000-2001 was, IMO, vastly inferior to what it is now at other positions. PSU was sporting a world class defense back then (offense was terrible, but the D was really good)...it may have been the 2002 game after Clarett got hurt, actually. In any event, that isn't really as relavent a comparison for obvious reasons. This offense is going nowhere fast without vast improvements. Then this may rival 1999-2001, and that would really suck.

No doubt. I think Tressel was grooming him to take over when he retired. Hazell might have had better concept of game management at this point than Fickell has. I think that Hazell was here as Offensive Coordinator, this team would be better off.

No doubt...What I liked about Hazell was he was a wideout coach. Typicaly, wideout coaches know more about the passing game and are a little more creative. O-line coaches tend to lean more on running and conservative play calling.

Bottom line...Ohio State has to figure out what they are good at and they better do it fast. Based on attrition with Pryor leaving, the young wideout core, but good stable of backs (boom coming back here soon). Obviously this team needs to be centered heavy on running the ball and running it well come mid october.

Once again, I feel compelled to mention what an attractive woman Amy Fickell is. Did anyone see her in the stands?

What I saw tonight was a team with no identity and a head coach who acted like he didn't belong in his position.

I hate to say it, but coach Fickell needs to right this ship..........quickly. This team is getting away from him quickly and with that, his job.

I'm a Buckeye homer beyond belief, but I find it hard to fathom us being out-coached by Toledo and Miami on consecutive weeks. That has been the case now and Luke's star is quickly losing it's luster. This team has the talent to win ballgames. If Fickell wants this job, he sure as hell had better start acting like it, because I'm losing faith very quickly.

He just stood there at the end, acting like he was thinking about calling a timeout, but never did...he barely shook hands after the game...jogged straight into the locker room...talked in cliche's after the presser...not a good vibe at all from him tonight. At all.

Bingo.

Not calling any timeouts pissed me off to no end. Fight until the last damn nanosecond.

I'm not upset by it, but I understand why others are.

My view is that this took place after the game was beyond reach. There are other decisions (or non-decisions) that took place while the game was still in doubt that I'm more concerned with.

I disagree...from even a simple lead by example standpoint.

In not calling those timeouts, Luke was conceding defeat...meanwhile his defense was still out there fighting to try and keep Miami out of the endzone.

Try your hardest to keep them from scoring, but I don't believe you guys can win the game anymore. That's what I was most frustrated about.

He worried me last game with some of his decisions about when to take a penalty or not and the way he froze up when the game got tight. He worried me more today. I can't help but think with Tressel we would of saw a lot more swing passes and short routes trying to get our QB's comfortable.

I highly doubt that. I remember a lot of us complaining that Tressel never did this with Boeckman back when the o-line couldn't block a high school team. The more I calm down and think about this game, the more I feel that Tressel probably doesn't call this game too differently from how Luke/Bollman called it. Hell Braxton probably wouldn't of seen the field again that game after throwing that pick.

Could they have won the game at that point?

It's not as if this was the first team that lost and didn't use all of its timeouts. How many scores do you have to be down by in that point in the game before it's acceptable to pocket them?

In my opinion, the decision to not call the timeouts was the most realistic assessment we've seen of this team yet.

13 passing yards (excluding garbage time) against a Miami team that gave up nearly 350 against Maryland the week before will be the epitaph of this coaching staff.

We need to blow out all these hangers-on and start anew in Columbus. I'm sure Fickell will have a great year in D3 football next year and begin to work his way up the ranks. Who knows, maybe he can be a Buckeye coach in 2 decades. But right now we need to think about keeping ourselves in the national title picture and not a single soul on this offensive or head coaching staff is going to be a part of us getting back to a national title game.
