DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

This is exactly what happens when you lose your coach in March and a lot of your supposed leaders are suspended..the damage has been done maybe the NCAA will take pity on us and not kick us when we are down

I think we all kind of new a game of this sort was inevitable, but against who and when would be the question. When Tressel was asked to step down,it kind of set the wheels in motion. I don't think Luke was really prepared for all of this. I know i sure wasn't when i heard of the resignation.

The game was a real beatdown for us all and many questions will be asked and how they can resolve the problems that they will face. This season could be one like the season of 2004. If any of you can remeber that one. Yeah it would be nice if the NCAA could be lienient with us and give us a break. But if they bring the hammer down on us - it could make things worse. Lets hope not. The season is still young and maybe we will learn from this game. "GO BUCKS"

Could they have won the game at that point?

It's not as if this was the first team that lost and didn't use all of its timeouts. How many scores do you have to be down by in that point in the game before it's acceptable to pocket them?

In my opinion, the decision to not call the timeouts was the most realistic assessment we've seen of this team yet.

Hell yes it was a winnable game at that point only being down 11 points and also the defense being gased on that last drive. The chances may have been .001% of us coming back with our current QB situation but it's still a chance. Miami is mistake prone. Fickell should have used timeouts on 2nd and 3rd down. What happens if we stop them and block the field goal and take it back to the house, then get the 2 point conversion. Then recover an onside kick with 1:30 left to move into field goal position. Or situation #2 we stop them on the goal line and on OSU's next play from scrimmage the corner falls down and we have a 99 yd TD pass. Then we are staring at a 3 or 5 point game depending on if we get the 2 point conversion. My point being, the game was not a 3 score game at the time he should have been using timeouts. The biggest thing I wanted to see out of the used timeouts was how Braxton would handle himself in a 2 minute offense when he was actually allowed to sling the ball around without having to worry about turning it over. But Fickell chose to quit IMO. Unacceptable!

Luke Fickell should not be the head coach of a top D-1 program at this point in his career.

All that needs to be said.

While that may be true, I don't think one can justifiably reach that conclusion right now. There are too many other issues with this team right now. I think the staff is worthy and deserves a while to work on them. The results of that effort will be a better determination of where this HC and his staff are at.

Correct. Our receivers are very inexperienced. All you have to do is double team Stoneburner and there is no viable option.

Verlon Reed - Redshirt Freshman
Evan Spencer - Freshman
Chris Fields - Redshirt Sophmore
Corey "Philly" Brown - Sophmore
Devin Smith - Freshman

Once again, I feel compelled to mention what an attractive woman Amy Fickell is. Did anyone see her in the stands?

I've seen her the first 2 games and she does have a rockin' bod. However, you're violating major rule number 1: NEVER judge a girl favorably while she has large sunglasses on. That shit can do wonders.

I'm not upset by it, but I understand why others are.

My view is that this took place after the game was beyond reach. There are other decisions (or non-decisions) that took place while the game was still in doubt that I'm more concerned with.

This summarizes my thoughts as well. The TO thing certainly didn't send the right message, but it is way down on my list of things that need to change.

fair pionts.....

1. this team is more talented than the 2004 team...by far...except at QB

2. Fickell is simply going to have to break "the family" up....he's got to do something to shake this staff up (he can't fire them in September)

3. Fickell needs to step out of Tressel's shadow...do what HE thinks should be done

I'm beginning to believe that as rah rah as I wanted to feel about Luke taking over and showing the immediate promise to grow into a great head coach......I'm afraid he has blown that chance with these guys. The players have to see him and feel like he is not going to lead them.

Fickell has been playing and coaching football for what, 25 years? While he may not be an offensive genius, you cant tell me he doesn't know how an offense should function. Again, 25+ years involved in the game...

I'm still in his corner at this point, but he must, must, must make the executive decision to turn the play calling over to someone new and hand the keys over to Miller at QB.

That would be fine. There are plenty of Head Coaches that do not call their own offensive plays and are very successful. They have good offensive coordinators to lean on.

I agree. Who would you give the play calling responsibilities to? Drayton would be the first one that comes to mind. He coached in the Florida system for a few years. The problem is he is our receivers coach and with the very young receivers we have would that have an adverse effect on them? The next guy on the offensive staff would be John Peterson. I don't know how well he would do being the recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach. Then there is Dick Tressel.

Spot on...There is no one to hand them over too. That guy left before this whole shit mess went down (Hazell)
