DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

Luke Fickell named National Coach of the Year

University of Cincinnati football coach Luke Fickell was named National Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Fickell's win was announced by the UC athletic department in a press release.

UC became the first Group of Five conference team to make the College Football Playoff, finishing fourth in the final rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee. The Bearcats play No. 1 Alabama on Dec. 31 at the Cotton Bowl in the CFP Semifinal.

Fickell is the second UC coach to win National Coach of the Year after former coach Brian Kelly won the award in 2009.

As other coaches left, Luke Fickell stayed at Cincinnati to continue to build

"The decisions we make obviously make us, and we all have to make our own decisions for whatever's best for whatever it is we believe is the right thing," Fickell said. "To be in the place where we are, obviously to have the year that we've had and to have the opportunity we have, but to be able to spend it with those guys I think is that much more special."

Kirk Herbstreit weighs in on why Cincinnati's Luke Fickell did not go to USC, LSU, Notre Dame or Oklahoma

“In Luke Fickell’s case, he was so locked in on what his team was trying to do,” Herbstreit said on the Dan Patrick Show. “I think ultimately he could have had his choices of USC, of LSU, of Notre Dame, potentially Oklahoma. And he was so focused on what his team was doing, he was letting (agent) Jimmy Sexton know, ‘Listen, man, I don't want to go there.’ Well, you're gonna miss out on this job. OK. In today's day and age, you got to really respect (what he did). I mean, he was the front runner for every one of those jobs and he just wanted to finish the race. So it cost him all these jobs because of the timing.”

National Coach of the Year? He didn’t have to share it with the other FBS coaches of undefeated teams?

Can't see Fick making that move.

i actually could see it kinda easily…..I struggle with all the dominos falling that perfectly. I do think McDonald to Baltimore makes sense, but that means Baltimore is taking an asset from Jim…….which means Jim prob isn’t at Michigan cause John isn’t going to fuck his brother over.

Anyways, it’s something going around.

If not Luke to Michigan (and I really hope Jim just stays) who is next logical choice???

You’re assuming anything to do with _ichigan has to be logical. This is the same program that hired Brady frickin’ Hoke.

Luke would be a good hire by them, sure. But, I don't think he'd take the job. I don't think he would take Penn State either. He's already turned down the opportunity to coach Sparty. Frankly, I think Fick is happy enough where he is right now and will leave it to take one of two jobs. Ohio State. Notre Dame. I don't know the man. But, that's my read of it.

Luke you want a challenge. Be the next Bo. Maybe Luke is beyond the need to cement a legacy. UC comfortable for him and his family..he’s not Urban in personality.

We are acting like Fickell is going turn down $7M or $8M a year?

It’ll be easy af to hate him if he took the job because we hate anyone and everyone in that job but that man has got to do right by his family who have supported him and his career more than he has to do right by Ohio State fans.

If he was chasing bank he would have chased it in EL when Sparty came calling.

Step 1. Complete. Mike MacDonald accepted the Ravens DC job.

Step 2. Where does Jim land? John doesn’t steal his brothers DC……I’d be blown away if Jim is back next year.

Step 3. Michigan hires a coach whose instantly better than Jimbo bc Jimbo is a fucking joke.

So that sucks…..
