High three-star defensive tackle Joel Hale (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) committed to Ohio State Monday, ESPN's Bill Kurelic reports.
"It came down to Florida, Ohio State and Penn State," Hale said. "It was pretty difficult, but I wanted to stay close to home."
Hale had an impressive list of 17 scholarship offers. In addition to the Buckeyes, Gators and Nittany Lions, his list included Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Cincinnati, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Iowa State, Kentucky, Duke and Toledo.
ESPN's Craig Haubert said of the news, "Ohio State stays hot on the recruiting trail getting another good verbal commitment in less then a week's time, this time though from a defensive prospect."
"Hale is a kid with good size and should be able to play comfortably at or over the three houndred pound mark in college. He is a kid with a good motor who moves well for his size. He has the tools to play the run tough and with some development could also be a kid who can create pressure from the interior of the line."
